I posted this topic:

http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,55370.0.html

Today - I got on her, and rode her home from my garage.  (10 mile trip.)   366 days after the accident.

So it's been one year and one day, and she feels/sounds great.

For those to whom I've given advice:  Don't rebuild the bike, let it get totalled, and buy a new one - that advice is still solid, and I should have parted this one out.

My tear down went as deep as this:

But in the past year I bought/sold a really nice low-mileage 1200 LTD that I used as my commuter since August 2010.  That was a fun bike to own and use on a daily basis.  I have used my Trophy 1200 more than I did in the past year as well.

I purchased all the plastics from a 1987 Interstate and changed her color.  It was impossible to find a good upper fairing that matched colour, so the colour change was my easiest option.

The topbox is still in the garage, and I need to get it to a repair person.  It has a hole in the bottom and I want to get it fixed before I install it in place.

Here she is - welcome home, baby.

It's required. That's where the Flux Capacitor is mounted.

Nice job on the rebuild.  Bigok

DAMHIK   Crazy

This wasn't quite the lowest point either. Visualize the swingarm and wheel missing and you're there. An engine sitting on a centerstand and some wood blocks, surrounded by wiring.

This reminds me of a story my father once told me. While at a BMW riders rally, he met a man with a peculiar bike. Evidently, the man hit a moose a couple of years back. He credited the strange design of he bike's handlebars to his survival and returned the favor by buying the bike back from the insurance company and rebuilding it. It took a lot of work, as you might imagine. But he was happy on that bike.

But sometimes your time is more valuable than even a mechanic's. Better to ride than wrench, I say. Some may disagree with that notion. I respect that. But I'd rather be riding.
