I'm planning a 2.5 day 2up jaunt around the Olympic Peninsula. Its a part of our neighborhood I have never been to, other than the eastern side down 101. I'm planning to leave Friday afternoon, over night in either Port Townsend or Port Angeles, then overnight in Forks (GF is a Twilight junkie) or Ocean Shores then back up 101 for home. We'll run up Hurricane Ridge, and out to Neah Bay.

Anyone familiar with the area suggest any good places to stay? I've looked on Hotels.com and tripadvisor, and I see there are a spattering of motels, most with not favorable reviews. Maybe there is something not listed on the webs, a jewel in the rough. Just want something nice and comfy, odor free.

Aggies in Port Angeles was top place. Not internet listed, low-rates now, but still could be your diamond, etc. (I'd have a backup or two...)

The Polynesian in Ocean Shores was once our beachfront resort for years - very nice, good in-house restaurant;  Second floor and up (ocean views) could be pricey. Reservations during the season could be scarce.

You will love WA coast route 101, even though it is not right on the coast much of the time. There’s a classic PNW wooded beach section south of the Hoh River with easy access to sand and surf, enjoy it while you can.

And, Ocean Shores is a fantastic beach, even open to on-the-beach traffic (remember, salt water eats wheel bearings  Smile   ).

(If there is time, check out Quinault Lodge for the fun of it. I think they still have a good restaurant.)

Ride Safe.

I'd look for a Victorian B&B in Port Townsend.

Port Townsend has the Tides Motel which was featured in "An Officer and Gentleman" (1982). Still in same location although it was remodeled. Never been there myself.

We stayed in Port Angeles 20 years ago at a motel called "Hill Haus" as it was on top of a hill overlooking the harbor and ferry terminal. Don't know what it's called now, but we enjoyed our stay that night.

I thought Port Angeles was a cool town back then, but it seemed somewhat dreary looking when we arrived on the ferry from Victoria in June 2007. We just kept going until we got to The Dalles that day.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I'm thinking its going to be one night in Port Angeles, and one night in Ocean Shores.  Forks to Ocean Shores then back to Vancouver is a long haul in one day, and I'd like some time to explore Ocean Shores.

Just remembered, the Moclips Hwy, a few km south of Lake Quinault on 101, will short cut out to SR-109 for a much better beach-side ride to OShores

We stayed at a motel just outside Sekiu last year.  It wasn't fancy, but clean and quiet.

Watch for Sol-Duc hotsprings   http://www.olympicnationalparks.com/accommodations/sol-duc-hot-springs-resort.aspx ... they have great little cabins there and the springs are a wonderful thing to do this time of year. Nice trails through the woods there too !
