Hello all,
I'm Mike from Mass, and a regular on the NER (New England Riders - yep I'm a NER'd) forums (you can find me there, same username). I'm 20 years old and this summer was going to be my second season riding. Unfortunately it was cut short three days in by a minivan. So at the moment I don't have a motorcycle but I've been searching Craigslist high and low to get some ideas of what I could ride next (any suggestions are welcome!). But I found this forum through a link that was posted to me on the NEST (New England Sport Touring) forum. So I surfed around here for a little bit and figured this seemed like a good group of guys and gals! So here I am! If anyone has any questions for me in case I forgot to cover something in this short introduction, ask away!

Welcome! Sorry to hear about your GS500's demise. That's a good solid bike that's been around for ages.
Did you get some sort of insurance cash from your accident? How about a WeeStrom 650?

Thanks for the welcome! And I know those! My dad has had one for the past few years, he loves the damn thing. He's actually let me ride it (big surprise there - if I were to dump it I'd need to find a new home
). I'm actually riding it tomorrow. He's always saying "It's such a pig" but it definitely doesn't when riding on it. SO definitely can't go wrong with one of those! ...just a matter of finding one in good condition with low(ish) millage at the right price....

Thank you! Indeed it was a solid bike. Really fun to flick around in the twisties. But I'm currently waiting for my attorney to put through the liability claim after I finish Physical Therapy. If some of the packed money sent my way survives insurance companies, I might have some money to play with.
I checked out the Weestrom and know a few people that have 'em and love 'em. My only problem is its too dual-sport/adventure touring for me. I did consider it (when I considered the Versys) and then I test road a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and a C14 and realized how much fun 100+ horsepower is
. So I'm really looking at motorcycles with around 100 hp with good torque that are upright seating and good sport touring bikes with an emphasis on sport. Some bike's that I've come across are SV1000S, Bandit 1250S, FZ1 (kinda high revs though for street methinks), VFR 5th and 6th gen, etc. I'm in no rush to buy though, my nearly nonexistent riding season ends in a couple of weeks anyway. So I figure wait until next season when (and IF) I get liability money. But of course like I said earlier I'm open to suggestions. I barely know a quarter (if that) of the motorcycles out there.

I went from a GS500 to a Ninja 650R after one season, and felt it was a perfect first 'big' bike. All the modern conveniences, with good fuel mileage and tire life. Suspension was better when I was under 180 and not fully loaded, but it was tolerable even loaded up for long trips.
If it is solo riding you are doing, the various offerings in that class are worth a look, including the FZ6R and the somewhat portly GSX650SF.

What happened to the first 16 Warriors?
Welcome, and have fun searching for your next ride. IMHO, you might be better served by spending some more time on a slow, "boring" bike before jumping onto the higher HP machines.

Thanks for the continuous welcomes. After a long summer finally got another motorcycle, 1999 Honda VFR800FI, very happy with it and it fills the notch for what I was looking for, good chunk of power but not too much, comfortable, etc.
Now its just a matter of waiting for the summer to come back so I can ride the wheels off of it!

Good deal with all the right mods, and sharp looking bike too. Well, at least from the right side

Nice choice! I had a '99 up til '05. like a dumbass I sold it cause I thought I was getting married. I regret selling the bike.
Regarding Red; Lucky that in '99 Honda USA offered the VFR in red, red, or red. You'd be in trouble.
