It's fixed.  Lol

It was the chain.. or sprockets.. probably the chain. I ordered a new chain and sprockets, the old chain had some serious tight spots in it. So.. no more jumping out of second gear, and no more crunching sounds.

I think the tight spots in the chain were causing the transmission to unload, and shocking it out of gear. In anycase the RF900 is working beautifully now... just need to reattach the 20 acres of plastic fairing, and have fun Smile

I like it when the cheap fix works..

Afaik, you can still get a 532 chain, but it's absurdly expensive compared to a 530 conversion. I just put new DID 530VM and sprockets on mine for ~$195. I went with a +2 rear sprocket because it always seemed a bit tall in the gearing to me - we'll see if it changes the fuel mileage much - although that was never a primary concern anyway.

Mine was skipping once a while when i bought the bike (2800$).Few months later , upshifting to second, it did a big "clunk" and locked up the wheel at 80 km/h!
Results> fuckep up gears, broken fork,ect.....cost me 2700 $ for the repairs
Don't have to worry about it now.
Was worthy, i got a lovely, rare, powerful bike.
What can you get for 6 000$ ?  A 600 cc race bike?
Second gear is a commun problem on RF900 & R6.
Expect to wait 2-3 months for parts! They ship from Japan only once the container is full !!
I got few posts on BCsportbikes.com.
Went 15/48 sprockets for a while.Oh man i had fun.Front wheel up all the time... barely was making 150 kms before hitting reserve!
Now running 16/43 sprockets, needed to adjust for takeoffs.still wheelie when i want.good gas milage (230-250 kms combine city/hyway).love it.

I just replaced second gear in my 95 RF. I came to a stop sign at about 25mph and ended up crotch-over-trees and had the handlebar land on the inside of my knee as the outside met the pavement.  second was gone when i bought it so i was CLEARLY asking for it...  I was able to find a whole new gearset from The Cycle Barn in Moscow, ID for 90$ up on ebay. I managed to get the engine out and on a bench on my lonesome and I took plenty of pics. I was lucky enough(or patient enough with google) to find a scanned rf manual for my own use. took me a couple of weeks(I made the mistake of counting on suzuki to deliver parts on time) but it got done and it's running great.  If anyone needs advice on how to get it done and what tools and so on, email me at SRXcitement@gmail.com  I love this bike and I'd love to see more of them out there.

The engine was built on the 1100GSXR bottom end, and gear ratios, however if you order anything for the 1100GSXR for your RF you can count on another trip to the store...I made this mistake 2ice already. Be sure to replace the signal generator gasket, clutch cover gasket, oilpan gasket, and I found that SUBARU pink 3bond is a much better product for sealing the bottom end, once given 30minutes to set and then installing the bottom end and torquing.

If you get any ratcheting in 2nd STOP RIDING. Second gear is notorious on these machines for chewing through. I also went through the trouble of having a local machine shop replicate all of the shift forks out of billet aluminum via CNC. the stock parts are weak as hell and I feel better knowing that i wont have to worry about those breaking on me ever again.  they only charged me 90$ for the three of them, and I feel its worth every cent.

If you do not have a set of clutch hub pliers, get a set. Snap ring pliers, and feeler guages too!

and since you'll be removing the radiator, get one of Muzzy's 6blade aluminum fans...cheaper than the stock replacement and you wont have to buy 3 in a season...

The bottom end bolts are not torque-to-yield so no need to order a new set.

I am aware that this thread has ended with the problem being the chain/sprockets, but be careful. Like i said..NOTORIOUS!
