Peter's V-Strom was totaled after his run-in with the minivan (fairings are expensive).  He's gauging interest to determine whether he keeps the bike and sells it as a salvage title.

I'm putting it up as a poll because my personal belief has always been "stay away from all salvage titles" but for a bike with only cosmetic damage I can see where someone might want a project or parts bike.

Note that I'm intentionally not including any specific information about his bike because this is more of a general/hypothetical question -- the bike is not currently for sale and may never be.  Just gauging interest here.

Having owned a salvage-title (cosmetic only) bike, I can say that not all salvage titles are evil.

My solution? Move to another state and get a clean title in new state  Bigsmile

Salvage titles are fine as long as the price reflects it. And remember ALL those salvage bikes out there are "just cosmetic" so the price really has to be reduced to interest folks. and even then there are some  that will always "stay away from all salvage titles".

All depend on the price the insurance co is willing to sell it to you for. If you have the time and inclination, you can usually get more by parting it out.

I've bought salvage titled bikes when I knew the seller, and was familiar with the incident that helped create the salvage title  status . . .

my bike is a sal, title, goes down the road straight as an arrow, it doesn't take much to total a fairing bike these days, i have a car with one also, i stripped her down to metal so i see what caused the damage, she was pulled by an r/v and put into a ditch, she has original t'tops and side glass so it wasn't that bad, she is also a very nice car imo,

i would take pice showing what was wrong with her to any potential buyers and adjust the price accordingly,

Don't salvage titles reduce the amount a vehicle can be insured for?

In California, it generally means the bike can only be insured for liability (not comprehensive/collision).  I don't know about any other state.

Cosmetic damage on a V-Strom can only be considered a strong selling point.
