The better half & I are headed up the coast for her birthday this weekend.  I have the road plan laid out.  We've got a room in Garberville.  Looks liek there is lots to do in the area. i suspect we'll pull in early afternoon on Saturday.

Any special locations we should shoot for?  We want to see the drive thru trees (south of Garberville), and take in a nice hike maybe.

Thanks for any tips/ideas!

Assuming you and "the better half" are on two wheels, take HY1 From Sr Francis Drake Blvd al the way up the coast Bigok
THAT is if you are headed north to Garberville not south.

Hy 1 north of the GG bridge Is Fantastic (but don't tell anyone)  Bigsmile

Yeup, we are leaving Sacramento and headed out 16 past clear lake to pick up 20 then up 101.

A near future ride will be the Santa Cruz to Fort Bragg ride.

Yes, ride a 98 Connie.

+1k

Don't miss the 22-mi of HY1 from the extreme north end of the beach-side portion back east over to 101. The drive-through redwood is just a short ways south of the intersection of HY1 and 101, in Leggett.

(FWIW, there's an exceptional state sea-side camping park just before turning eastward off the beach portion of 1, couple of miles north of Rockport.)

If you have the time try Hwy 36 from Red Bluff on I-5 to Fortuna on 101.  Fortuna is just a bit North of Garberville.  The best part is the squiggly arrow "twisty road" sign with the "NEXT 140 MILES" sign underneath.

The ride ended up being 579 miles.  48 miles of slab, and the rest of highways, & byways.

Rode the leggit to the coast portion. WOW.  Awesome roads.

highly recommend more time in the north coast area!

Soon planning a ride from the golden gate to Sandy Eggo, via the PCH.  Smile

The good parts of Hwy 1 end around Santa Barbara.

After that it merges with the 101 and goes through Ventura, LA, Orange County, etc.  It becomes an urban quagmire and not at all scenic in most places.

Did you visit the Lost Coast at all?  Mattole Road?  It's just North West of Garberville.
