I will say that riding this bike well will take some practice, since the lean forward to the clip-ons is more severe than I have ever experienced.  I have read that the late model supersport/superbike ergos make the ZX-9R seem "roomy" by comparison.

It does have as much power as I hoped it would (too much!).  I hope to exploit it wisely and often at the track.

I've read that your gen bike is just a little sharper and more focused in the ergos than the previous gen, which is my ride. Next time we grab coffee, you're welcome to take mine for a spin to compare.

Wow!  Nice looking track at Autobahn, but $205 and the fact that I have vacation from work the PREVIOUS week means I'll be enduring a very long work day that Monday.  Edit:  Off work Mon. due to it being Labor Day.  Jai:  Are you planning on this?

I really want to hit this track in the future, though (along with Road America and Grattan).

I am "in" on the Autobahn Trackday on Monday, Labor Day. I think Jai is too.  If you don't have the time  to ride the track day... Think about comming down for a visit and check out the course. Monday is Full Course Day, and it will be the last track day of the year, for me anyway. Other hobbies take over my time after Labor Day.

Plan on, or think about, Grattan, Gingerman and Road America, next year, plus a few Autobahn days and at least one Blackhawk Day.  Let's see.... that's six track days. I'm sure we can think of more.

Last week, at Gingerman, there was a guy with your model and year of bike. He did very well.

Have fun with your new toy. Prepair for the track!

I have some maintenance-related things that I need to do on the ZX9 before I jump out on the track, so I have to decline the offer, Jai and Bill.
I should have a repair manual on the front porch by tomorrow, though.  Chain is dry and dirty, Oil and filter need changing (so I KNOW they're clean), and I want to play with the suspension setup, since I have full adjustability at both ends.  The battery is nearing the end of its usable life (next year, perhaps).  Thankfully, the tires and brakes are good.

So what have you done to it so far?

I want to play with the suspension setup, since I have full adjustability at both ends.

Thankfully, the tires and brakes are good.

I used this as a baseline starting point for my suspension set up;

Front suspension:   Preload - 2nd line from top flush with fork cap
Rebound damping - 1.5 turns out from full hard
Compression damping - 3 turns out from full hard, stock ride height

Rear suspension:   Preload - 9.5mm of threads showing above top collar
Rebound damping - 4 turns out from full hard
Compression damping - two turns out from full hard
Ride height - 8.7mm of shims added at shock mount, resulting in
25.4mm (1 inch) at the axle
From here : http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2002/06/03june02kawasaki2002zx9r/

I ended up stacking washers at the rear to get the ride height that was suggested but eventually went to Ohlins front and rear. It's worth the money. I also went to a 180 on the rear, much faster turn in with no loss of stability. The 9 also really liked the Michelin PP tires over the Bridgestones imo.
