No, but almost as good.  Some farmer in down state Illinois owned it with only 7K on the clock.  I put 10K on it myself the past 2 years.  It's mechanically stock, with the exception of different Yamaha wheels (changed rear from 16" to 17" YZF wheel).  Traxxion suspension and some other minor changes.

My first 4 bikes were Yamahas. Clap Great bikes!

1.) '76 YZ80 (this is the bike I learned to ride on: "What's a 'clutch'? ... "Breeeeeeeeeendeengdeeng....OUCH!")
2.) '79 YZ80 (my next bike...oooh Monoshock baby! ...my neighbors heard this every day after school: "Bwaaah bwaaaahh bwaaaaaa bwaaaaaaaaaaaa!")
3.) '80 IT125 (indestructable, fun, easy, blue and white. Hollister Hills or Clear Creek? "Asbestos Boogers!")
4.) '83 QT50 Yamahopper (Hey, it did great donuts and spent almost as much time in the air as it did on the ground.)

I've got some pics but I'd need to dig 'em out of the closet and do the  scanner thang.

This is currently my only Yamaha - a crusty Triple: '79 XS750F

I just saw one of the mid-80's 3-cyl 750 road bikes for sale in a yard the other day but didn't have time to stop to look at it and haven't seen it again.

Edit - yup, that's what it was - an XS750.

Somewhere around twenty five years ago I bought my first bike, a 1979 XS650 Special. I rode the bike to San Francisco and back, and to Chicago a bunch of times, and all around Toronto all the time.  I'd ride 'till the snow stuck and would start riding again as soon as it melted.

I sold the 650 to a pal who sold it to a pal who moved to Europe and left the bike in his brother's garage. The brother's wife had had it and wanted the bike gone.

So the bike's mine again.  I'm planning on restoring it to stock, or anyhow something close. I've got a fast bike for tearing around on; this’ll be just for fun.

Prior to the FJR, I had two Yammies.

Way, way, way back I had an early 80s Special II 400 or 450. Hated everything about that bike.

In the mid 90s I had a Radian. I have a picture somewhere around here. I'll scan it in. Loved everything about that bike.

Man do I wish I could find a pic of THE OLDEST YAMAHA THERE IS (at least the first one that was sold in the U.S.), the 1954-1956 YA-1!

I had a stock yellow one in the barn up until last year, when I GAVE it away to Bruce Helsel this spring.  Bruce owns one of the local corner convenience stores and a tree landscaping business in Cadillac, MI. and might use it as a display later on.

Unfortunately, I can't find the old picture I had of it. It might have been restorable, but at a cost and effort that was higher than I valued the bike. Much of it was rusted, lots of it needed to be re-chromed, a few parts and cables would need to be fabricated. Have you ever smelled 40-year old stale gasoline? I have. It has a very unique odor.

I have a 1990 Radian in the garage that looks brand new.  Okay, give me a sec and I'll post a pic of it:

My aunt bought this bike, brand new, in 1972. In 1980, my father bought it from her. I rode it around a bunch from '80 until about '83 on country backroads, despite not being of driving age. We sold it around '85 or so to a guy who bought it for his son/grandson to turn into a dirtbike. Nuts

This is a 1972 Yamaha LS2-100. Twin cylinder, two-stroke, oil injection. Top speed was only 55 mph with my 140 lbs on the seat (I was only about 13 at that weight).....with a tailwind! Lol

This was my first street bike.  A 1982 Yamaha Seca XJ400.  I was 18-years-old in 1982.  I rode the hell out of that bike.  I even rode it from Siidell, Louisiana, to my first duty station in Wash. D.C. loaded with gear.

At the time my Dad owned a Yamaha and Suzuki dealership, but wouldn't let me have anything bigger.  I can appreciate that now.

Hambone, the saddlebags are Dowco Rally Pack Value Series and the tail bag is a Cortech Sport that I picked up used on e-bay. The saddlebags are very simple and no-frills, but work great and are inexpensive - I paid $60 for a new set. Here's more info:
http://www.dowco-inc.com/Prod_Power.asp?seg=2&ProdID=50105-00
And yes, the seat is an ever-so-comfortable Corbin.

What did they call those?  Was it XT models?  I think the 125, 175, 250 and 400 had similar paint schemes.  I'll guess a '74 or'75 (or was it DT?) 250.

WOW!  You must be an old one like me.  Your right on a 1975 (74 looked the same) DT250.  That picture is me tearing up Old Orchard Beach Maine after riding up from Worcester Massachusetts.  I had a huge sprocket on the back and knobbies - I did not have to worry about speeding tickets on the interstate with that bike, it wound out at 65mph.

Suzuki did the same thing back then, the TS 100, 125, 250, and I think there was a 400, all had similar paint schemes.  I mowed grass and dug ditches for two summers, and at the ripe age of 14 plopped down I think it was 750.00 cash for my new TS 100.  It just as easily could have been a Yamaha, but the Suzuki shop was closer.  I loved the way those Yamaha's looked.

Here's my '82 650 Seca. I picked her up about 4 years ago and added a BMW R90S fairing, clubmans and an after market pipe. Other mod were braided steel brake lines, drilled discs and progressive fork springs. She's been a great companion on many trips. Very reliable and a snap to maintain.

Hummm, 22K?  Almost new?  Why sell it?  Also, a most sad story "totalled it within 24 hrs".

My first street bike (and second bike overall), a '71 XS1B, purchased in 1973:

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/paulweit/Personal/Yamaha_XS1B_71.jpg

In '78 or '79, I picked up a DT175, but have no pics of it.

In 1980, I bought this '75 RD350 and hated the pinkish orange stock paint, so painted it pearl black with purple ghost flames:

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/paulweit/Personal/Yamaha_RD350_75.jpg

Foolishly traded it straight across for a IT400. My wife damn near divorced me for that trade!
(No pics of that one either.)

~3 years ago, I bought this '74 TY250 to play around the property on:

I absolutely loved my '79, but it wasn't the special.  It had wire spoke wheels, and the lower handlebars and flat seat.  I rode the bejeezus oout of that bike.

I took this when I was cleaning out my garage. Shortly before I sold the 1994 XJ600 and about a month before I wrecked the 2004 FZ6. My dad's 1979 650 Special is still rusting away in my garage waiting for my him to restore it someday.

When tuned right (carbs balanced and valnes properly adjusted) they aren't too bad.  Not like one of the modern bikes, but not too bad.
It's not obscenely loud, but I don't run her at odd hours of the night or morning either...

My neighbors (both across the street and one next door) all ride with me!  If fact, the comments you hear are from two of them.
I'm not sure about the rest- at least one non-rider thought it was pretty good.  The kids love it.
What can I say?  I think I might live in the coolest neighborhood ever.  It's great.
However in all honesty I didn't think the mark would last that long- it's still there, but fading...

First of all, it's gotta have valves, secondly, more than 1 cylinder is excessive!
This one, an '81, is merely loud and fast.

Dood, interesting bike. Did you customize it yourself, or was it all f*cked up when you bought it?

Here's my '89 FZR600.  If I could find another of these I'd add it to the stable for sure.  A fun bike.
