A member at VFR-D has had an issue with this helmet.

http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/68143-hjc-symax-2-helmet-failure/

There is a link on that post that leads to a webBikeWorld article about the same failure.  It discusses what to check for if you are using the same helmet, as well as the position held by HJC on the issue.

I have the other version (IS Max I think) and it's my favorite summer helmet.  Love the sun visor and popping that thing open at traffic lights or to snap a quick pic is awesome.
I've even run mine through the trees on the klr.  No problem with mine  Shrug

I have this helmet and haven't been very impressed with it. Or any HJC helmet, for that matter. Hmmm... Maybe its time to start buying Shoei again

I have this helmet - thanks for the heads up!  No failures with mine after 8-months of use.

we had one of these in teh motorpool -- worked fine, and didn't fail when subjected to the test -- given that some do, and some don't, I think it's a bad production run with a borderline design or some bad materials --

in any event, it certainly isn't a good sign -- ours had been retired in any event.

There is a reason they cost so little.  With so many sold, some are bound to fail.  At $120, it is no big deal.  When your $500 helmet fails, that's a big deal.

I run a CLMax (flip up, no built in sun visor).  It is a good fit for me and cost under $100 on clearance.  I wear them for two years and then throw them out.  There are 4 news ones on the shelf in my basement.

Interesting, I have had mine about a year. Just the other day I thought the locking mechanism felt weird. I read this thread and popped mine apart and guess what? Broken on BOTH side. NICE!!!

Time to dust off the ole standby. Nolan where are you?

I have the IS max BT, and I am less than satisfied with it. Much less than satisfied, I plan on buying myself a ex900 during the winter to replace it, after 1.5 years of use.

I too have been having issues with the latch system, but with me it either fails to latch shut or gets stuck shut and requires a bit of force to get open.

Some of the other issues I have are that the ventilation sucks unless I lower my head so the top vent holes are facing the wind. the visor fogs up quite easily, it is very noisy, not aerodynamic, it blows all over the place on me, and its heavier than I really expected it to feel.

That's exactly what mine was doing so I popped the inside cover off and the latches fell out of the chin bar. Better check yours. The plastic liner was all that was holding it together.
