MCN the soothsayer of the bike world is claiming to have spotted an all-new R1200GS.  Anyone have any news or speculation on what is in store?  IS BMW looking to gain HP to compete with the MTS1200 and the rumored Triumph Adventurer 1200?

New BMW R1200GS spotted!
This exclusive spy shot proves the next generation BMW R1200GS will be new from the ground up, with an all-new water-cooled engine, revamped styling and major chassis changes.

I'd be surprised.  Based on what I'm seeing, the bike is still selling very strongly.  I wouldn't think they'd need any major updates (regarding their "NEW FROM THE GROUND UP" claim) for another few years.

Water cooling has been confirmed by multiple sources. In fact BMW Magazine published photos for the engine casing (in detail) in their last issue.

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news/bmws-liquidcooled-boxer-spotted-wild/

http://bmwmcmag.com/shop/bmwmm11/

They are really not going after the Multi as that would change the role the GS plays. The new Triumph may be a different case. The main argument for liquid cooling is emissions and noise. It is supposed to be revealed to the public at the end of year at one of the European Motorcycle shows. Likely a 2013.

Also confirmed, water cooling will be in the block only, not in the head.

Good. Because this is going to drive down the market prices of used GS's currently on the road when the owner's dump them for the "latest and greatest" GS.

Thanks for those links, wiseguy.  I had heard rumor about the "wetheads" but didn't hear that they were redoing the R1200GS bike.  I believe you are right about the reason for liquid cooling.

Spy shot released online:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/New-bikes/2011/August/aug1911-water-cooled-bmw-gs-is-new-from-ground-up/

The photographs - taken last week outside BMW's Munich Development Centre - show a pre-production GS with a water-cooled engine plus radial brakes, modernised styling, adjustable screen, new clocks and the exhaust and shaft drive on opposite sides to the current model.

I like that pic - what I can see anyway.  I do not like the styling of the current GS.  However, I am still years from replacement barring something odd as I love my bike.

Look close and you'll notice that the intake and exhaust are now top and bottom instead of back and front.  Plus the drive shaft is now on the port side instead of starboard.

Additional spy pics and info suggest it will be a R1250GS

I also love the lights.  I don't think they need to up the displacement or power.  The motor is awesome - they should focus on additional fuel efficiency if anything.

I'd love me one of these bitches for the nasty, but beautiful, PA roads we have.

I just think these would be the schizznit for touring/general riding up here.  Thumbsup

Gawd the admission ticket price on these though, maybe in a couple years, yes, but totally out of the question right now.

Kids, ya know.  Lol

The new Triumph 1200 Explorer is a beauty, I was all over it at the IMS this year. I'm not sure about the MSRP but if BMW is going to watercooling then I may jump ship back to Triumph. Part of the reason I got the GS is the illusion of simplicity the air cooling supplies. If I have to get a watercooled bike it may as well be a triple

kinda sad,  a big change in a motor/model and it can only muster one page so far...?

well it looks good, and may change my wishes for getting a MTS.

I adored the 1200 GS I test rode.  It's very comfortable right off the show room floor and sporty as I'll ever need on the street.  I'm just not ready for an engine that doesn't like to spool up quickly.   The torque was good, but the slow-to-rev mill made me get what I have today.
