I am getting ready to mount a 660 on my bike.  It has an older 2730 that I can no longer update already on it.  The bike has an aux slot on it and I can play either an I Pod or the Garmin but not both at the same time due to crappy sound quality.  This was from a spltter I bought at Radio Shack.  Any thoughts from anyone here on how to use both at the same time and it not distort the sound.  I don't mind if the Garmin overrides the I Pod at all.

What about something like this for the IPOD and the aux plug for the GPS?

Ideally, you should use a audio mixer.  There's lots of options for active mixers but they are more expensive and require a power source.  If your I-pod/GPS have enough volume, you could also look at a passive mixer which is cheaper requires no power, but you will lose some volume (which been good for me as my unit's have too much volume).  I have an old passive mixer, the size of 1/2 a cigarette pack, from some guy that used to make them for motorcyclists, but unfortunately no longer does.  I used to mix GPS voice, radar detector and I-pod into my Etymotics, worked great.

Google "passive audio mixers" and there's a DIY altoids version to a $50 option out there.  There's also a Radioshack Y splitter (2 male > 1 femaie) thing that I've used with success, but I understand there's no isolation and a risk that one unit can blow the sound board of the other unit.

I thought the 660 had a built inmp3 player, why would you need the ipod as well? Just curious is all  Smile

I have a boatload of songs on my IPOD that I don't want to lose.  If I could transfer them to the 660 I would if I could also keep them on the IPOD.  From everything I've read about Apple this will never happen.

Easy enough to do.  Once you've got them off the iPod, just move onto an SD card and stick it in your Zumo.

Have you used this product?  Just wondering if it worked and did it leave the songs intact on the IPOD?

Easy answer is to get a few telephone isolator coils and a small box to put them in, trip to Radio Shack. IE, make your own isolation box maybe $15.

Got one for you if you want it BigFoot (it is in storage might take a while to find it)

I've used an earlier version and yes, it worked just fine.  I no longer have an iPod, but that's a story for another existing thread here.  Someone liked it more than me.

Download it and do the free trial.

I bought one of these to replace my MixIt 2.  Put it in the tank bag with the volume knob sticking through the fabric on left side.

$65 plus $15 for extra cord if you use a radar detector.

Sorry about the px size, I'm illiterate computer-wise.

Headscratch  I don't see why not.  If the only place they reside in on the iPod (and you don't have copies on your computer) there are plenty of ways to get copies on your 'puter without removing them from the iPod.  Senuti is the program I would use, but there are others.

Out of curiosity, why do you have these songs on the iPod but not on the computer?  And how were they installed to start with?

The only restriction you'll face from Apple is that iPods are set up to only sync with one computer at a time.  This is a very simple anti-piracy tactic.  If the iPod is set to sync with your computer but you have songs on it that you've downloaded, you can sync them onto your computer.  If the loaded iPod was a gift or something like that and isn't set to sync with your computer, then use some of the suggested software to peel the songs off, load all of them in to iTunes, and sync the iPod.  This will back everything up, and iTunes will readily convert any audio file types to .mp3 so you can load them on the Garmin.

Other than the price, why do you like the amplirider better than the Mix-It?

If you Ipod has bluetooth capability you can use something like a Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth receiver to consolidate and prioritize the bluetooth from your 660 and Ipod to your headset or earbuds. It will consolidate and prioritize up to 3 bluetooth streams, so you could also add your phone to the mix if you wanted.

And if your iPod doesn't have Bluetooth, you can add it.
