Goddamn dude watch those damn things. I had a front Shinko 757 tread delaminate from the carcass after only 3000 miles. It wasn't funny. 3 days prior to that I took the Connie up to felony level speed on I-81 and I could only imagine if that tire came apart at 102 MPH. Kinda makes one re-think doing stupid speed things like that when your life depends on a 1/2 inch thick piece of rubber in two places.
I'll never buy another Shinko tire again.
Seriously Frenchie keep a close eye on those things.

I'm trying out a pair of the new Shinko Verge 011 sport touring tires.
They should be in and on the bike in a week or so. They're about $100 less than "real" sport-touring tires whose name and model people recognize. I couldn't find a single freaking deal on anything I'd normally order and use. Ah, the joys of prime riding season.
If I die in a fiery crash, please remember I love you all.
Are those motorcycle tires or car tires? I hear car tires last a lifetime.

So, I will not be getting the tire machine than
Ride safe and keep an eye out on the tires, they may feel great but please avoid the felony speeds (high speed & china tires do not make a good mix) I would rather have you around than not (witty banter is a good thing)

I'm happy to run around on slow bikes; I have very little self control when I've got power on tap. I'd rather manage momentum than full braking and full WOT.
The beauty of having always had "momentum bikes" is that when I finally stepped up to a liter bike I still ride it like a "momentum bike"......unless I'm passing a car.

I ran a set of the 011 on my C14 and they handled great and stuck like glue, but I only got 3000 miles out of them, then I ran the 009's and got 4200 miles out of that one.

I'm currently using a set of Continental "Conti-Motions" that I got for $135 a set (120 + 180) plus PA sales tax. No complaints so far. Another affordable option for sane speeds on public roads.

I'm using a set of Conti-Motions, too. So far they are just fine, but at only 1600 miles they seem to be showing some wear. Hopefully they last 6000 miles, but I'm not betting on it.

Insane speeds and ramping up the torque will get you 3000 miles from the Conti Motion, I just took off the rear today, I will be putting on a PR3 tomorrow.

+1. Just from what I've read, I think most people do just fine with the tires, but you certainly do hear the scary stories. I had some pretty massive tread separation ~halfway through the life of a front tire - it never tried to kill me, but someone who isn't watching their tires may let it go too far. I decided the extra 50 bucks for a better tire is worth it every time now.

There was just a post today on the Hayabusa forums about a Shinko front that disintegrated for no reason. When it comes to tires, cheap scares me.

I have a friend that swears by the Bstones 016's which imo is a great sport tire. He recently purchased the contimotions on a tighter budget and loves them.
Keep us updated frenchie.

I loved the way they handled on my C14, hated I only got 3,200 miles out of the rear. Still got the front on and PR3 on the rear and just came back from the Deals Gap area and 1050 miles of fun

I've felt exactly ONE kick out; it slid a couple of inches on a wet tar snake the other day, an hour or so after it stopped raining and surface water was still present.
Is there any other tire that would not have slipped in that case?

I bought a new set of tires recently (yet to put 'em on) and I debated between the $150~ Shinkos and the $225 Bridgestones. Some of my debate had to do with tread pattern (apparently the Shinkos are noisier), but I also debated about the benefits of saving $75 for tires made where labor is treated poorly (China), and spending the extra $$ for tires that are hopefully produced by respected labor (Japan, I believe).
Something I'd like to see incorporated into product 'specs' is where the product is made and some kind of indicator for labor living standards. I don't like the idea of supporting a system where some poor worker in China is being paid $5 for a 15 hour day, like the guys building the new East Bay Bridge in Oakland, CA. (read a Times article about it a month back or so). At least I could be a more informed consumer and go from there.
