This was my fourth trip to the Indianapolis MotoGP, and as always I had a great time.  Brought the good camera gear this time  Thumbsup.

Some of the highlights from this year:

  • The weather was just about perfect
  • Being in the front row of the Riders for Health charity auction, which enabled me to get my ticket signed by Casey Stoner
  • Finding a great place on the fence for the race (not behind double fences, but right on the track fence)
  • Having Tony Elias in front of me on the flight back to PHL - he looked like he hadn't slept since the race  Smile

I will post a link to all the (edited) photos from the weekend at the end, but here's more than a few of them.

Here you go:

Tony Elias

Ben Spies

Nicky Hayden

Valentino Rossi

Casey Stoner

The Hayden family had a private viewing area on the inside of turn 1

Nicky was sporting a special helmet for his relative's wedding

Casey was on fire all weekend

Hayden brother watching Nicky on the track.  Would have been an amazing shot if I could have gotten the reflection of Nicky in those sunglasses.  I got about a dozen shots with no luck.

Aoyama walks unmolested through the paddock while Nicky gets mobbed.  Shooting over the fence here, one day I'll spring for paddock access

Shots from the charity auction:

They led off with Valentino Rossi, and listening to him talk it's no wonder he's so popular.  The guy is downright charming, and quite funny.  He had no problems poking fun at himself about his season on the Ducati so far

Nicky about to throw a football to the winning bidder.  That bright spot in his sunglasses is my flash  Smile

Jorge being asked about how he liked the new track surface

Tony Elias showing off his funky european footwear.  The guy was having an absolute ball on stage.  I recognized the shoes when I was boarding my flight.

Funniest guy of the day was no doubt Colin Edwards.  He was also a class act with the kid who was named after him (Colin Edward).

Making sure the winner of the shirt was getting the "full Colin Edwards experience"

When Marco Simoncelli was asked which hair products he used, his response was "i dont-a know, whatever me momma put in da showa"  Smile

Some shots from the fan track laps:

STN's NearlySeventy leads into Turn 7

Yamaha had a great setup teaching little kids how to ride dirtbikes:

In the "No Parents Allowed" section

Some kids did great solo

Others enjoyed a spirited 2-up adventure

Some shots from Saturday's practice and qualifying:

Nicky leads the way

Elias and Capirossi

Crowded corner

Marco and Loris

Rossi did not have a good weekend at all

Lorenzo, Elias and Hayden

Spies was second fastest most of the weekend

Good luck catching Casey

Dovizioso

Bautista

Didn't work out too well

From the MotoGP race:

Coming into Turn 2

Rossi leading Hector Barbera

Stoner in front of Pedrosa

Stoner way in front of Pedrosa

Bautista putting the moves on Hayden

Spies threatening Lorenzo

And it wasn't an idle threat

Casey ran away with it

The GP pics are spectacular especially the two left handers showing the big leans on the edge of grip. Thumbsup

I know Tyler O'Hara who won the wild Saturday XR1200 race. Love this pic showing just how big a fight every corner of every lap of that race was.  Bigok

I completely agree. I'm assuming that thing is homemade. If not, does anyone know what the heck it is?

I think it's a Moby or Mobylette.  Somebody on my block has something similar.

Great pics Ken.
