We had great weather here in New Jersey for the AMA races this past weekend. Due to a recent change in my work schedule, most of this weekend was a result of last minute planning. Although I wished I could have planned better, we made the best of it and we really had a great time.

My wife and I have two sons; Dominic, 2 ˝ years old and Evan, 3 months old. This picture took some bribing in order for it to happen. Anyone see Super Freakonomics?!?! M&M’s do work…

Although Dominic has been great with his younger brother, he is definitely a handful. I’m sure I was nothing like him when I was his age. He must have gotten it from his Mommy! “What you gave your parents you will get 2 fold from your kids.” Haha, yep!
Friday, Mommy needed a break so I grabbed Dominic and headed to NJMP to see some of the AMA weekend. We only live approx 50 minutes away from NJMP, very convenient for track days.
A happy kid on the way to see some motorbikes.

This winter, I picked up a set of earmuffs for Dominic in anticipation of attending loud sporting events with him but I was a tad worried if he would cooperate and wear them. Friday, Dominic didn’t mind wearing the earmuffs at all and wore them everywhere except during lunch.

We, well I, watched the practice laps. “Daddy, are you quicker than these guys???” “You bet!”

After a few laps, Dominic’s attention span left and enjoyed climbing on the bleachers. “What motorcycles Daddy?!?!”

We had a nice day walking around and visiting the vendors. Everyone was really great with him. Stickers here, high fives there. Friday was a really laid back day and perfect for him.
After walking around the bikes, Dominic and Daddy were shocked at what we saw. A VFR1200!!! “Dominic, that is like a unicorn.” “A unicorn!??!” “Yes, it is made up of fairy dust and make-believe and perceived to be better than what it is.”

“Daddy, is that a Unicorn too???” “No Dominic. That is a FJR, an overweight motorcycle according to County.” “Who’s County?” “He’s a Unicorn.” “Ok. Thanks Daddy!”

I have to give credit to this place. They served great bbq. It was that good I ate there Friday and Sunday. Friday, Dominic and I had a pulled pork sandwich, beans and potato surprise. The potatoes were great and the pork was fantastic.

A job well done for Friday!

Sunday, I met up with a bunch of good friends. I thought about bringing Dominic but with all the people around, he wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as Friday. Friday was a perfect day for him. He was able to walk around, play and talk to the crew. Most likely, I will do that again with him next year.
Sunday’s weather started off overcast and cool. It was actually quite pleasant until 11am when the sun finally broke through. I wouldn’t say it was hot out but temps rose a bit in the afternoon.
I arrived at the track nice and early.

Some riders filing in.

Two up on the track.

We walked around for a bit, checking out the vendors and such when I saw “The Man”. Erik must have just come out because no one was mobbing him yet…except the guy in the blue shirt. This guy talked…and talked but finally I was able to say a few words.

“Thank you very much Mr. Buell but what we need now is a true sport touring bike from EBR…”

Erik reporting on the new sport touring EBR concept bike. DAMMIT! Another lost business proposal…

We took our seats at turn one for the xr’s. No problems here this weekend. Everything went smooth at this end.

After the xr’s, we ended up walking up to turns 3 and 5 for the next race. I don’t remember what race it was, didn’t really care at this point either! We were having a good time enjoying the festivities.

Other fans at turn 3.

Some eye candy from the day…
Nice Duc being auctioned off for a charity.

Cool old Beemer

The xr’s are pretty cool when set up for the track

This kid really enjoyed the bikes.

Nice Superduke

I really liked the paint on this S1000rr.

The “smokers” lined up before the race.

I have to give props to Team ProMotion for sponsoring the races. Also, they are a great track group.

Unfortunately, I had to leave around 2pm and missed the big race but I still had a great weekend especially on Friday with my son. Great memories.
Fun, good food and Motorcycles. You really can’t ask for anything more.
