I've got vacation the 2nd of oct and would like to make a trip to sw Co. and maybe se UT. Just wondering what the weather will be like that time of year. I've been in the area middle of sept and weather was great. Not really worried about cool temps., but concerned about snow in the higher elevations.

It's always a chance anytime after Sept for snow in the mountain states. There really is no way to be sure. Best suggestion is to be prepared that it is always a possibility. There have been years when there was no major snow till December, and other when I have seen snow in Oct. I have a feeling with the recent temp drops being seen that it may be an early winter year. So just be prepared.

+1 It's really a guessing game this far out, esp going into the fall season. I'd say expect at least some snow at 10k+ feet, and chilly(30's) temps in general at 8k and up. There are lots of warm days too, but like Justin said, year to year it always changes. I ride year round without much problem, I just have to change up where I ride depending on the month/weather(snow)

My op should have said 2nd week. thanks for the replys, thats what I was expecting to hear. I don't mind the cold temps, but I don't like the idea of geeting cought in the snow. I rode across beartooth pass last year and had to ride in the snow coming down. Not my idea of fun.

Most likely not going to get caught in the snow. I was just saying it's a possibility that time of year, but not likely. Just check the weather and you'll be fine.

That is how it looked when I
dropped
to Walden area . The road over Gore Pass was all white , I just followed tire tracks .
Electric gear or not ( I had heated gloves and vest ) , when the outside temps suddenly drops to 25 -30 from 80 - 90 F deg you are gonna freeze your ass off . Your body is not prepared for that . I took me two hours of sitting in hot tub to get my body functioning again when I got to motel in Sidney NE .Brrrr.
Two years ago , mid September .
