Okay...I know most of you guys are about riding, riding, and ONLY riding (which is cool). But I'm also interested in seeing a few cool sights I haven't seen before. So I'm starting this thread for people to post anything they know about that might be worth seeing in Ohio (or nearby WV).

I'll start with something I've seen...and it's pretty cool: Serpent Mound...

It's one of the largest effigy mounds in North America, built by the Fort Ancient native American culture about 1,000 years ago (around 1070). It's huge (1,330' long) and incredibly precise geometrically. No one knows exactly why it was built, because it is NOT a burial mound. Here's the Wikipedia entry...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_Mound

It's 137 miles from Marietta...

...so maybe there's a way to combine some of Garry's routes with this? (I'll look into it).

Anyone got any other cool sights? I've seen some incredible pics of natural formations (sinkholes, cliffs, etc.) in the Hocking Hills...but don't know exactly where they are?

True---I forgot you mentioned those. I did some more digging around...and Hocking Hills State Park has some pretty incredible natural scenery—check out these images:

That looks like it's worth a stop to me!  Thumbsup It's about 77 miles from Marietta...

Good pics Jack! I'd read about the Muskingum  River lock system but wasn't sure where the best place to see it was (since the locks are spread out). Sounds like the Stockport Mill is the place to go!

When I took the Stayin' Safe course a couple of years ago we stayed at the Stockport Mill. It was very nice and the food in the restaurant was good. I'd stay there again.
