All you need is cash and "search tempest". Tons of VFR's out there. My persoanl favorite is the 2007 Anniversary Edition in Red White and Blue!

Do yourself a favor and at least test ride an XX, and make sure the tires are in good shape. Lol

Make that a big, big, big favour. The best bank for your buck is the BlackBird, imho. Check out the CBR1100.com site. I test rode a VFR prior to buying my '02 Bird and when I got off it it told myself, "Don't buy this bike, you'll outgrow it." I now have 176,000 (110,000miles) of trouble free riding. I just came back from 5 days in Wash/Oregon on my Bird and as I stated, this is the best bike Honda ever made. The motor is bullet proof.

For you BlackBird fans, aren't the ergos more sporty and less touring friendly than the VFR 800?

Sure, you can mod the heck out of it, but I'm referring to stock.  I am really familiar with the VFR 800 because it's #1 on my radar list.  I hope to test ride one this weekend if the weather is good.

A quick search of Cycle Trader shows CBR 1100XX are much less available that the VFR 800.

I had a Bird and LOVED it. More aggresive riding style but an ebay heli bar was a quick fix.

I will sell you my 2006 Pearl White VFR ABS with Givi V35 hard cases. 15K been down by the previous owner not too bad:) $5500

Awh sorry for the plug

You can put some VFR bars on the XX. The XX needs some ergo help but all bikes need mods. It's the XX that responds the best though...you can't beat it, I'm telling you. It makes the VFR feel like scooter.

With all due respect to the XX, that bike has a very nice, powerful engine in lieu of its displacement.  But that is all it really has.  The XX was designed to unseat the Kawasaki ZX11D as the king of speed back in 1997.  It did that....barely.  Honda continued to sell the XX up until 2003 (I think it was the last year).  But that bike was a 1990's design.  The 6th generation VFR800 was a much newer bike with a better chassis than the XX.  I've ridden the XX back to back against my '00 Hayabusa (which was another 1990's design to unseat the XX).  The Busa has a way better chassis, I mean it was a great deal better with higher quality suspension components, stiffer frame, etc.  When pushed the XX would quickly get loose and squirmy and run out of ground clearance just when the Busa was just getting into its stride.  The 6th generation VFR800 handles better than the Busa did!  Less effort to ride fast even though it weighed the same!

Ride an unmodified XX versus an unmodded 6th Generation VFR800 and I can guarantee you the VFR will easily outhandle it in any road.  The only thing that makes the XX "better" is the power.  Well it had better because it has 300cc's more displacement!

I spent 2 years (13K miles) with a VFR800 and a year (6K miles) with a CBR1100XX.

For eating up highways, the XX wins.  The engine is incredibly smooth and powerful.  For for most anything else I prefered the VFR.  It just felt and sounded right.    Bigok
