Figured i'd show you guys what i've been up too.  Starcom1,  A Tomtom one gps will be mounted to the top plate along with a cell phone holder.  and power plugs for charging devices while on the go.  We will be riding to deals gap next month and needed some GPS guidance and the ability to talk.  The project evolved from there.

One thing that has us worried though is security.  We took the bag to a bike night so we could test the intercom en route.  the bag on the bike made me paranoid!  and we didn't even have the GPS mount up there yet.  The GPS will be detachable,   But nabbing the bag gets the Starcom1.

Any ideas how to keep it secure?

Take the bag in the restaurant with you or don't worry about it.  I've left tank-bags on all the time with no problem.  My GPS is always on the bike and nobody has bothered it.

I used to be that way too. Until one day when someone stole my helmet off the mirror when I just ran into the store really quick. Now I don't leave anything that can be stolen.

+1. No more. I havn't had anything stolen but I've had young hippy-hop types eyeing my shit up when I hit a mini mkt for a quick stop.
2 or three punks in a car can snap your GPS cradle off, make off with an expensive jacket + helmet in seconds flat and take off.

That's a grand right there in replacement costs or better.

tank and tailbag lifted from the bike while I paid for gas inside the station -- in a lily-white neightborhood, as a data point.

ya can't stop theft, but you can make it less likely.

I have a Shook design Speedpak. Hardshell with a hole for cable lock.

Axio also comes to mind.

+1 for a cable lock.
It'll prevent a quick snatch n' grab.
But it may result in a pulled over bike.  Sad

I vote :
TAKE IT WITH YOU!

Looks like a master volume control for the Starcom.
