A friend is offering her Icon Pursuit jacket for my girl to buy. not sure on the price yet. But I am concerned about the shoulders of this jacket.

The CE armor is in "pockets" that unzip from the outside. Besides looking goofy with the big shoulder pads. my girl said they are uncomfortable to wear as well. We pulled the armor out and it was more comfortable. But i am worried about not having padding there.

Should i strike a deal on this jacket, or keep looking for something that fits her a bit better?

I wouldn't unless the jacket was leather, and even then I'd think twice.

Agreed -- there's no reason to NOT use armor these days -- there are many low cost alternatives available . . . . . if it isn't comfortable WITH the armor, it is likely the wrong size.

Just cuz Hailwood rode in a cork helmet and with no armor doesn't mean we should today.

I read somewhere that most back injuries were not from actually hitting your back but from shoulder impact. They stated shoulder armor greatly helped to reduce these injuries.

Not claiming any experience other than a fall where a car rear ended me doing maybe 15-20mph and yeah..the shoulder on my jacket was all scraped up but I didn't feel a thing from it.

So no..too many jackets with shoulder armor out there so why buy one without.

I'd put armor on anything that sticks outwards and is likely to hit first.  Hands, elbows, knees, hips, shoulders, etc.

Monkeys have internally armored acromion. Fully 73.2% more dense and larger than humans[1]. You're fine without it.

[1] - I have no fucking clue what I'm talking about, and I had to look up the name of the acromion.

Armor is there for good reason.  If it's uncomfortable with the armor in place, it doesn't fit right.

I got a suit that didn't include a back armor pad.  I spent the extra $$$ to have the maker put it in.  It was optional, I might never need it, but why risk it?

Nope.  So long as if you ever crash and seriously injur your shoulder, you don't complain about the pain or healing process.  Cause you chose not to protect it.

If it feels odd just standing around, it will feel terrible sitting on a bike with wind sheer.  The jacket doesn't fit.

On the plus side, a lot of shops are dumping inventory right now to make room for the "2012 lineup."

Unfortunately my local shops do not believe in clearance sales.  they think the price is msrp plus 10%.  Makes it difficult to try things on before buying.  Might be heading to Dayton in spring.  the vendors bring good stuff there,  and even some deals to be had.  Got my leather cortech jacket at Daytona for $100.   been workign great for six years now. I thought this thread died long ago. Anyhoo, the answer is still yes  Twofinger  unless, of course, I was riding a Wing.
