VFR 1200 cost
«
on:
September 20, 2011, 03:02:23 PM »
What would be a good price for a new VFR 1200? I've been checking around and all the dealers seem to want full retail. There's no way, with the season almost over. Let me know what you think a good deal is. Thanks, Dave

Phase5, are you saying that the VFR costs the dealer 13500? The best I can get out of my dealer is 15995, out the door. I was hoping to do better than that. Thanks for your help.

I was thinking the same thing. All local dealers(within 50mi.) don't really want to deal any on a 2010 VFR.

Did you do a search on cycletrader.com?
I know it's not in your area, but in CA the going rate seems to be between $12500-$13500 for those that are dealing.
I would expand your search beyond 50 miles. It's worth travelling to save a couple of thousand $. Think of it as a nice introductory ride home.

Southern Honda Powersports in Chattanooga, TN $13,171 for non auto.

its really the only place to shop for new Hondas, not sure why you would want one, but you asked.

There is one the local shop that has dropped below the list which is why I asked your location. It is still 15 something on the website but I'm pretty sure it is marked less than that in the store.

At least they got the price right now
I wonder how many they would have sold if they started at the right price.

I agree, $11.5k is a good price for that bike. I would consider buying one if it were not for my Futura (which I adore). I might actually consider one if I could get rid of my silly MV.

at $16k you'd be foolish not to buy a K1300. at $11.5k, things are a lot different.

Sorry it's taken a while to get back here, but I've been having a good time putting miles on my bike. I don't understand all the bad talk this bike gets. I wonder how many people have actually ridden one. The last Honda I had was a 2003 Blackbird, owned the bike for a year, put 11,000 trouble free miles on it. I don't think the Blackbird holds a candle to the VFR.

I'm sure it's a great bike (haven't ridden one myself), but there are 2 reasons why it gets no love.
1) Wasn't what people were expecting (or what they wanted).
2) Expensive (for what you get).

Yup
People were basically clamouring for a 1000cc version of the current bike, with better suspension and reduced weight. Akshully the weight could have stayed the same.
So basically - a restyle, 1000cc v4 powah, better suspension.
Instead we got a massive seemingly unrelated super expensive bike that is now in the same category as bikes that offer far more features.
No-one asked for the auto gear box.

Anyone else price out the luggage for this thing? I was considering the bike when prices around here dropped to 13.5k. Priced the luggage kit at several dealers and all came in around 2900, not installed!
After the cost of luggage, I'd be well into Connie or Fur territory.

Really? The ones I looked at on the dealer floor when the first came out had great paint jobs. Of course, the same bikes were still there a year later covered in dust, and didn't look so good anymore

Really? The ones I looked at on the dealer floor when the first came out had great paint jobs. Of course, the same bikes were still there a year later covered in dust, and didn't look so good anymore
The paint is extremely soft. Just like on my Wing 1800.

What's the deal with the paint on this bike? Who cares? It's like putting lipstick on a pig.
It actually looks better in sliver, it pulls the emphasis off the random silver bits and massive exhaust. It also helps tone down the ugly on the X shaped headlight.

I too wonder why all the haters on the vfr? found one brand new 2010 $10400!! at that price don't see how you can go wrong! haven't rode one yet, but plan to, have been researching them for a while now and i hear really good things. some issues with low speed fueling but honda is doing a free remap to solve this. only thing i can complain about is the price of the luggage, but one can always go givi!

Haters of the new VFR are:
Closet VFR fans but can't justify the price for a Japanese brand, yet justifies it easily on a BMW. This board is full of them.
BMW has everyone fooled nowadays. Look at the fit and finish on their bikes and compare them to a Honda, especially the VFR. Even more important is the quality/reliability. For the same $$, the K1300S sole advantage is heated grips. But to some, the BMW roundel is worth all the money. Same with their cars. They charge way too much for a BMW car yet other brands give more for the same $$ or less with greater reliability.

I picked up a new VFR1200 a few weeks ago for $10,499. Because of poor weather, I only have 500 miles on it. But, so far, it has far exceeded my expectations. At that price, it is a HUGE bargain! If you like a super comfortable, super smooth and fast sport touring bike, this is a FANTASTIC bike! I wouldn't have considered buying it at full MSRP. But, now that I have a few miles on the bike. IMO, it would've been worth full MSRP.
Two years ago, Honda was blowing out new 2008 CBR1000RRs and I got one for $7299. I've owned over 80 motorcycles in the last 41 years, and have no doubt that the 2 best deals I got on new motorcycles are these 2 bikes.

Congratulations on a great deal on one helluva bike! To my eye that's a sweet looking machine but what's most important is that you, the cash paying customer, are satisfied with the product. You sound happy with the purchase and I agree 100% that leftover machines are the way to go. I bought a 07 vfr 800 in mid 2009 when honda officially reduced the price to under 8k. In 2.5 years that bike has been flawless, no issues at all. It feel as solid as the day I bought it. Post your thoughts on the machine as time allows if ya don't mind. Always good to hear first hand real experience.

I put my helibars and givi sport touring shield on yesterday my lower pegs will be here tomorrow, and lucky for me 60degrees Sunday so I will put some more miles on it.I will probably do a corbin seat or exhaust next,I feel with the deal I got on it I can blow a little money accesorizing.I am like you 47 yrs old and probably between dirt and streetbikes have owned 40 to 50 last 20yrs also.I believe my 2009 Honda CRF450R in 2010 brand new for $5k OTD and this one to be probably some of my best deals.
