I'm not sure I "get" these.  They appear to just be cheap kind-of-hard bags.

Some of the bikes listed for these bags don't have traditional hard bag options.  The semi-rigid Givi bags are a step up from soft bags because they lock to the bike and don't require straps.

Yeah I get that.  Lockable is good.  I just thought one of the big plusses to soft bags was that you didn't need to add mounting frames to the bike.

It seems to me that many soft bag pannier set-ups require rails or frames of some sort to either keep the bags from falling into the wheel space or to keep them off of high-mount exhausts.  I realize there are smaller bags that mount only to the seat - I am referring to the full pannier types.

Yep, many soft bag installation DO require some form of tubing to keep them out of the wheels and off the exhaust -- that makes sense.

Lockable soft bags, though, just seems a lil oxymoronic -- I KNOW you can break into hard bags, but it would take more than 10 seconds with a box cutter.

My reservations should be viewed in the light of my lack of confidence in mobile phone and bottled water demand.
