It looks like I'll be doing a quick ride up to my summer home in Vermont to close it down for the season shortly and I would like to avoid the Northeast Corridor (I-95). I've had good luck going through Pennsylvania before on the slab when going by car, and would like to do it on the bike.

Here are my goals -- I need to make good time since I'll try to do it in one day (about 550 miles) but I don't want to slab it the entire way. The best would be to take some routes that would still be somewhat fun and interesting but not too slow, and that perhaps would intersect with the slabs so I could still make halfway decent time.

I'll be popping into Pennsylvania on 15 just south of Gettysburg, and then working my way to the northeastern part of the state. When I slab it, I pick up I-81 at Harrisburg and take it northeast into New York where I pick up I-88 in Binghamton.

I am more than happy to exit Pennsylvania anywhere along its northern or eastern borders, as long as it avoids the New York City metropolitan area.

TIA!
