Anyone ride this section of road lately?   I road it in early June and it was excellent; however, a group attending a Fall Colors Ride last weekend out of Snoeshoe said it was in bad shape.  Weather looks fantastic from Wed to Sun all over WV so I'm planning a trip.

I'm planning a four day trip to The Snake for this weekend too (OH, KY, TN-NC-VA, WV).

I was on 15 earlier this year and a few times last year. It's getting bumpy in places and in need of a re-pave, but it's still a decent road if you pick your way through the rough bits.

Thanks guys, kinda what I thought.

Have fun down in my neck of the woods.  If you plan on hitting N. GA watch out for LEO's, we seem to be having an epidemic of those critters over there.  Looks like great weather too.

Maybe we'll have a flyby, if you see a blue Tiger with big silver boxes attached to the rear, that'll be me.

Planning on leaving Thursday and returning Sunday. Not sure which direction I will be riding (WV first, or WV last), but I plan on one day in Ohio, one day in KY, one day in TN/NC (the Snake day), and a day in WV. At this point it looks like a solo trip, my usual riding partners aren't available this weekend. If I hit WV first, then I hit the Snake on a Friday which may be a good thing, then hit KY on a weekend (hopefully less coal trucks on a Saturday than a Friday).

I rode 15 last Thursday. It is not too bad, worse on the eastern end. Also a little washboard in some corners. I would prefer the patched stuff to the washboard. All in all not too bad. I wouldn't pass it up. I noticed alot of ditch clearing going on so be careful. They dig out the ditch, throw all the dirt in the road, scoop it up and hose it down. So the surface may not be as clean as it looks. Also gets treacherous if wet. Colors seem to be best down by 150/55/39, Further north by 15 there was very little change.

I noticed that a lot back in June.  On some of the major roads there was lot of dirt laying in the corners.

The Snake has been excellent all year.  TN didn't have the cash for special LEO observers.  A few times there was gravel all over the turns, but if you plan to "run" it, it's really best to take a ride through anyway.

I know WV was doing the ditch maintenance thing on route 50 west of Mt Storm (Gormania area) this summer. Haven't been on it since June when it was a mess.

We'll be doing WV on Thursday down to Lewisburg, Gatlinburg Friday night, etc...home on Monday. If you see an electric blue FJR and a 2010 Connie both 2up on your way make sure to wave. (With all your fingers please!!) Smile
