Interesting. It seems that the close calls all have pretty low rpm in the corner and are accelerating just before they lose it. Could they be in too high a gear, and the torque band kicks in on them, rather than taking the corner at higher rpm in a lower gear and avoiding the sharp rush of torque as they get on it?

Strange that everyone is losing the rear at the same place -is everyone just applying too much gas or is something slippery on the road?  Seems like people would be losing the fronts if it was something slippery....

I've seen a few videos of people taking the corner and the same thing always happens.  I'm thinking gremlins.

I watch a lot of these vids and try to learn something from them, but like you guys I'm not really sure what is causing the lowsides.

I never run Mulholland, but I run Angeles Crest frequently.  On my Speed, I keep the RPM's fairly low, running most of it in third gear.  Then again, I'm just trying to be smooth and safe, not pushing the corner exits or entries.  Maybe that's why I *knock on wood* haven't dumped a bike yet.

we have ridden the malibu hills a few times... less 8 times total im sure...

we find it to be an interesting n scenic place to ride... butts multiple close calls with double yellow violators each and every time force a closer risk evaluation on our part... we generally meander the fog line up there waving the fast folks by...

Camber change?  People coming to hot - and then abrupt torque hit?

It sure is reproducible and watching the SupMotos slide is fun.

There's several reasons folks have problems there - one of the biggest is increasing throttle and lean angle at the same time.  Another (and I wish I could find the photo of it) is a bit of speculation in that that area might be a bit smoother than the rest of the corner.  After any rain, there is dirt across that section that then gets ground into the surface by cars, trucks, etc. before it is taken care of by the road crews.  Then, the camber is a bit off from what you might think it is.

Then again, hundreds of folks manage to not dump it in that corner every weekend, so who really knows.
