My BT SAE pigtail has a 7.5A fuse.  I'd like to connect that (thru an SAE-coax adapter) to power the Powerlet heated glove liners I just purchased, which are rated 24W per pair. The liners came with a pigtail that has a 15A fuse. Is my 7.5A fuse insufficient? If not, should I go up to 10A or to 15A, and is there any danger in doing so? The BT pigtail appears to be at least as heavy gauge as the Powerlet's. Thanks Experts O' Electrons!

Someone may complain, but I would have no problem at all slapping in a larger fuse and using the BT cable. I've chopped those things up. It's a heavy gauge wire. I think it's 18. It should handle the current. It's a direct connect to the battery. I don't see a problem.

24W per pair?  That sounds low.  If so, its only 2 amp at 12 volts so your 7.5a fuse should be good.  Just carry a spare higher fuse.

could be they are fused higher cuz the initial draw is higher? carrying a spare 15A fuse is good advise, in any case

If its a resistance heat device the wattage rating should be volts time the amperage draw at max, right?  Its not like a motor that has a higher starting amperage.   Headscratch

true enough -- I was grasping at straws to figure out why they fused it as high as they did

Thx for the quick and useful replies! Maybe I'll experiment.  I assume the lowest amperage fuse that doesn't blow under normal conditions is generally the one to use? BTW, per Powerlet, 24W total for the pair is correct; maybe lower 'cuz it's liners and not gloves?
