Rob Weaver of Crotchrocket.tv picks up his EBR 1190RS and gets a tour of the factory.  It's kind of boring; I fast-forwarded through most of it.  But after the second video, I think I understand a little better why the 1190RS costs over $40K.

UPDATE: I've added the video where he picks up his bike.

If I heard right half the cost is in CF.  If so what do you suppose will be sacrificed to produce the lower cost version?

Half the cost of the CF was in finishing it.   There's SIX coats of clearcoat on it.

5.5 lb wheel EEK!

CNC radiators and oil cooler.

Details cost money, and this bike is full of details.

My guess is replace the CF with fiber glass.  What about the wheels?  Are they aluminum or magnesium?  Cast or forged?  Also, the work that goes into the engine looks expensive.  I doubt they'll cheap out on the radiators.  They look like they have to be machined, not cast.

My guess is that, at best, the "inexpensive" version will still cost $18 - $20K.  Too rich for my blood.  But remember, the EBR Website lists the RX, SX and AX under "future models", so hopefully we'll soon get to see what else they have in store.

What that shows is how far they have come in just 18 months.

It is not simply a redesigned 1125R - it is a new bike built from the lessons of the 1125R and the Barracuda.

CNC radiators, all new frame, swing-arm and body parts.

It is amazing.  You'd have to bet that the financial pressure is enormous.
