Uploaded the most updated tune on my Sprint today, upgrading from the original on my early 2006 model.

Wow!  Way noticeable difference on the road.  I'm now considering all kinds of other mods, like dropping a sprocket in the front, exhaust....good stuff.

Been meaning to get to Bomber's garage to wire up the rack for the Givi top case (which has the light kit in it) and other possible doo dads...wonder if he has the wrench or socket necessary to change the front sprocket...!

Yeah, I used TuneECU to download an updated map for the Daytona a few months back.  In a nerdy kinda way, it felt pretty cool to have the laptop plugged into the bike and to be able to make changes with the click of a mouse button.  I was able to deactivate the exhaust butterfly valve, clear a CEL that was caused by the faulty exhaust butterfly vavle,  adjust the speedometer to be more accurate and download a new tune, all in about 20 minutes.   Thumbsup

Why kill the exhaust butterfly valve? Does that increase power at high RPM at the sacrifice of torque down low?  Isn't that what those exhaust valves are for?

I'd love to use the TuneECU, but I don't have a laptop!  Well, I do have one that I don't use anymore, but it runs Windows 98, not sure if that'll work!   Lol

TuneECU works great  Thumbsup  I loaded a few maps until I found the right one to reduce the throttle snatch on my Tiger.  The Speedo adjustment was the icing on the cake.

I killed it because it was getting stuck and causing a check engine light and disabling it in TuneECU was easier than freeing up the valve, which I still plan to do at some point.  Its a very common issue on Daytona 675's.  From what I've read, the valve is more for noise control than anything.  I didn't really notice any difference before or after.

Been using it on Tiger 1050 for a year or two.  After playing with several maps I have gone back to the original TOR tune because it had the best combination of mileage and feel.  I call it feel because IMO, it is more in the head than actual numbers on a HP/FtLB vs RPM chart.  What I like about it the most is that you can balance TB's, reset error codes and generally see what is going on.

ANy of you ever played with the custom tunes available?  Are they reliable?

FWIW:
IMO, the ones you get off the German site are "safe."  They are put together by folks who seem to know about this stuff.  Getting one from just anyone off the web has risk, especially if they monkey with ignition timing.  Now whether or not you like the results is more of a crap shoot.  I have tried "maybe" five or six, and I have NOT screwed with the maps myself.  I believe that if you make small, slow changes to the maps yourself and you do a lot of homework on what you are doing, any risk is minimal.  For me, I do NOT want to become an automotive engineer.  Sooooo, I load up a map, try it and if I don't like it I just go back to what I had.  If you find some thing you like keep it.  Pretty easy and pretty quick.

I'm just worried that I'll like it, but it will be bad for the bike in the long run.  But what you posted makes perfect sense to me.

I bit the bullet and used TuneEcu to upload a new map on the Speed. I was pretty nervous about it, being a mechanical moron, but I watched a couple youtube videos and read through the excellent instructions from the tuneEcu webpage and it went flawlessly, took a total of 20 minutes with the tps reset.   Thumbsup

Hopefully the slush & ice from that ridiculous freak snowstorm will be gone tomorrow so I can get out for a ride to see how it feels.  Crazy

Tell me more about this speedo adjustment...  I'm tired of having no idea how fast I'm going.  Since I changed the front sprocket, it's been afu.

All you do is hook up the TuneECU and you can adjust the speedo as a percentage of what is stock.  I think mine was a -6%, but it does affect the odometer and things like miles to empty.
