Okay, I'm not all that plugged in to racing news,  but of all the scenarios I'd heard, all the talk of Yammie using Tech 3 to develop young talent -- I really didn't see this coming.

It was announced today that Dovisioso will partner with Crutchlow next season at Tech 3.

Honestly, I kinda expected it because Tech3's young talent might be quite good, but they're not dominating moto2 at all...

Bradley Smith turned down Tech 3 for one more year at Moto2 which was a good move on his part, but Dovi going there, must be more to the story then being told.

I must be living under a rock.  Why would Dovi leave Repsol Honda?  I missed something.

no kidding

and its not like he isn't doing well. He really runs under the radar mostly, but I was thinking that he's top 5 usually?
Maybe these "difficult economic times" have forced Repsol to limit the number of million dollar contracts they carry?

What Phoenix said. Honda had four Factory bikes for 2011 (3 at Repsol + 1 at Gresini for Simoncelli to hit things with) and they scaled back to three. Simoncelli got a new contract with Honda and Dovi wasn't offered a factory bike. Looking at the rest of the open seats, the pickin's are slim. Tech 3 or redheaded stepchild on an LCR Honda (no factory bits), customer Ducati, Suzuki (may or may not be back in '12) or a CRT team that may never make it to the grid. Ugly choices beyond Tech 3 for a talent like Dovi. Ugly times in MotoGP.

Does this mean Edwards is leaving MotoGP? Coming back home to retire and shoot guns on his ranch?

Edwards to Moto2? I guess I really haven't been paying much attention this year.

Edwards announced a race or two back that he wouldn't be with Tech 3 next year. He'll still be in MotoGP, but with a new team that's moving up from Moto2 to run one of those production based bikes allowed under the new rules. There's a thread on that somewhere around here.

I think the theory goes that he's such a good development rider, he'll be a good benchmark for whether that approach can actually work.

I can't wait til next year.  The variety of machinery ought to help make up for the lack of different top finishers.
