Higgins Armoury Museum, Worcester route advice.

I thinking of heading to the Higgins Armoury Museum with my dad before the snow flies. I'm coming from NE CT. Most of the urban sprawl around Worcester looks pretty ugly. Are there any half way decent roads Southeast of Worcester that'll get us in the area of the museum or should we just blast up the highway. Thanks in advance, Frank

Stafford St. isn't awful. Runs from Rt20/31 in Charlton, Mass. into Worcester.
169N will take you to 20. go east on 20 about 500 feet and turn left onto 31N, then 1st right is Stafford Street.
Or you could take 197 in Thompson, Ct. to 31N to Stafford St. NOTE- 31 and 131 are close together at rt. 197, don't be fooled
PS, the museum is great.

Worcester simply put, sucks.
Scum has you on some nice roads but once you ger to the eastern end of Stafford St. you are in Worcester proper and subject to all sorts of pain and suffering.
31 is a great little piece of road. Grab it in
Quinebaug
CT.
169N/197E/31N. Cross 131 and moments later 31 is on your left. You are almost instantly in MA. at that point.
When you reach Worcester, Stafford St. will bring you to Park Ave. which takes you to the other end of the city where the Armory is I believe it is off of Gold Star Blvd. It is loaded with stop lights and bad drivers. 290/190 will take you there as well from the Holy Cross college area. It is one of the more dangerous bits of highway around though.
Good luck and enjoy the museum.

Thanks guys, Worcester ugly that is pretty much what I thought. I'll take some nice secondary roads north 'till I hit urban ugly and then jump on the highway for the rest of the way to the museum. Kinda excited about this little day trip as this will be the first time riding with my dad in a long time. A couple of months ago he bought a sportster 1200 after not riding for about 10-15 years. He's put some miles on it around town since then to get his "sea legs" back. Should be fun!

Highly recommend 31N from 197. New pavement, nice bends and a great view once you get to the top of the climb.
