Through the Indian Reservation, I see Old San Carlos Road and Coolidge Dam Road as alternates to route 70.  Are these interesting?  They certainly look better than 70.

TIA

I blown through on 70 several times when going from PHX to Flag via 191.  This is a long ride to pull off in a day so I've never spent the time to explore these side roads.  My map shows these two roads as paved and I think I will just have to make the time next time I'm down that way; they look intriguing.

Last time I was on Coolidge Dam road it was very rough, large holes in it and lots of dirt and sand on the road.  It fine down to the dam but after that be careful, also I never saw a person from the dam back to 70, so it's pretty isolated as well.

Dropping down into the Phx area on US 60 is always a treat. To bump this thread does anyone have a favorite loop around the SW NM & SE AZ area? Coming from Abq/SF area, Quemado/Reserve NM would the the starting point for me.

Best riding day of my life -- Started in Safford, AZ and headed south down to the Swift Trail, route 366, out of Swift Trail Junction, http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/forest/recreation/scenic_drives/pinaleno_swift.shtml.

Then headed out to NM via route 78...

...over to 180 then visited the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, http://www.nps.gov/gicl/ via routes 15...

...and 35.  Headed over to I-25 via route 152.

Ended up finishing the day in Alamagordo with over 500 miles completed.

To that I would only add route 191 in Arizona between Clifton and Springerville or Alpine and you would have a complete loop starting in NM.
