I have Saturday to myself so I thought I'd go check out some leaf colors and dirt roads. I'll be leaving from northern NJ and would be comfortable covering 250 miles or more. Road conditions are secondary (ie, dirt roads are more than welcome).

Thoughts on which way I should head/destinations?

Edit - I'll be heading towards High Point on Sunday, so I don't mind not going through there specifically on Saturday  Embarassment

Considering we've had about 2 inches of rain in the past two days here in central PA, I'd try to find some place that has been drier.  The rain has really stripped the trees in these parts.

Sounds like the Catskills are past their peak, but Hudson Valley or PA Poconos may be worthwhile.   Have a good ride!  Wish I could get away too.

I'm going to disagree with Mr. Cablebandit and say the leaves are at their peak here in central PA.  The fall colors were beautiful during the drive from Harrisburg back to Tyrone yesterday.

After this weekend, however, all bets are off.

Last Saturday I did a 270 mile tour of sullivan and delaware, ulster and back home orange. The leaves looked great and road conditions on the whole were great. Any where there is a river or stream can mean road closures but that just adds to the fun. Peekamoose rd (47) has a huge crater a few miles in from 28.

Ok, based on this site and the topographical maps, I think that I'll wander over towards the Poconos and then head north into NY State. Maybe I can find some random dirt roads coming off the Upper Delaware area...

Regardless, it should be a good day  Cool

I was through there 2 weeks ago and 47, as well as 42, were closed between 55 and 28. Signs were still up but you could get through on a streetbike anyhow?
23A south of Grand Gorge through Prattsville was officially closed this past  Tuesday but they were letting traffic through. Leaves looked pretty good to me.

Along these lines, does anyone have suggestions for the outer Philly area? We've been wanting to get down to Revit for some new gear, we'd like to get out of the city ASAP since city life is what we do 24/7. Where's a good place to go for an overnighter in, say, eastern PA?

Thanks in advance
