in other words, RK expects their latest chain to last longer than a BMW FD..

Quote
RK’s premium "XW"-ring chains are the best high-speed, extreme heat performance chains available today.

The "XW"-ring features three lubrication pools to protect against high-speed abrasion, heat build up, torsional flex and the loss of lubricant, the result is a longer lasting high performance chain.

RK’s GXW series chains eliminates the risk of seal failure on the highest performance machines and provides the user with a 50% longer wear life compared to standard O-ring chains.

Available in sizes 520, 525 and 530, the GXW comes with RK’s exclusive 20,000 mile warranty. Available in Gold, Silver, Blue, Red, Green, Yellow and Orange. Retail prices start at $130.99 (for 120  links non-gold 520). For more information, contact RK Excel America.

Good luck collecting that...I had two die with 8K to 11K miles. They refused to honor their warranty. The local dealer went to bat for me and I got one replaced. After the second one died, I stuck with DID chains and I'm happy with how they last.

The GB530GXW is the stock chain on the Busa, and I got over 33k on my original chain. And the chain was still in amazing shape when I switched it out (still in spec, no tight spots etc) - probably could have gotten another 10k easy - I just start not trusting a chain with that many miles. This is easily my favorite chain I have ever owned - and there is no reason that one should not last 20k.

I used an RK x-ring chain once on my Sprint RS. Never again. What a piece of garbage. Totally trashed after only 12K miles. DID only for me now...

That is strange how different two people's experience can be with the same chain. I have had the same experience with the EK ZZZ chain. Everyone else on the Hayabusa forums swears by them, but I have yet to get more than 10k from one. I wonder if certain chains like to be maintained/adjusted a certain way, so differences in how people maintain a certain chain yield such different results?

I know the RK chain I used on the Sprint got the same treatment as the stock chain and it lasted half as long. But it's just one data point. The DIDs I've used and the stock chains that came with my bikes have all lasted over 20K miles. In fact my stock KTM chain went 23K and the DID replacement has now gone about 20K and looks great aside from a tight spot. It will get replaced over the winter with another DID.

Tires are another case where the same product has wildly differing longevity with different bike/rider combos.

+1 The "warranty" is just to slightly discount the full retail price of a new chain, making you pay for their mistakes (and the shipping costs to send it in).  I've had a horrible experience with RKs as well (stretched like crazy right out of the box, never had that happen with any other).

I tried a RK 530 SO O-ring chain on my '94 CB1000, a bike with maybe 90 RWHP. It  lasted 20,000 miles- and that was with cleaning with kero and re-lubing every 350 miles. The OE chain lasted 36,000 miles. I'm now experimenting with EK ZZZ 530 chains on my CB1000, '97 Bandit 1200, '98 SuperHawk, and '99 ZRX1100. Much too early to report on longevity.

My stock Suzuki chain went 26,000 miles with little maintenance.  I replaced it with an EK chain and when I sold the bike that chain had about 15,000 miles on it and looked new.

The fact that I could use a screw in master link on the EK really sold it for me.  No need to buy a chain tool to mount the thing.

I've always wondered about the merits of the screw-in master link. I have a chain tool, but I don't quite trust myself enough when it comes to using it.

2009 CBR1000RR,purchased in april 2009,came stock with Dunlop Sportmax tires and RK chain.Changed both out when due for replacement. For the chain that was about 35,000 miles due to tight link after clean and lube every 500 miles with Honda chain lube w/Moly,performed by mechanic. It worked fine,it just wasn't a DID!Went with appropriate DID chain w/gold links.Shorai battery next!

Same here. I tried an RK once. It barely made 10k miles before it started kinking up. Went back to DID.

Do you always bring your bike in to a mechanic every 500 miles for this??  Headscratch Or are you a mechanic, who cleans and lubes his own chain every 500 miles??

I bet that almost any chain would last if it were cleaned & lubed each and every 500 miles.

Good question.

I just keep mine clean with wd40 and it seems to do ok, but I'm only about 13k and change into this one and I started late (used bike)
