I've got a glove problem
«
on:
October 14, 2011, 05:28:35 PM »
The problem is no one anywhere near me stocks a good selection of gloves.
I'm looking for a nice soft all leather glove with gauntlets, knuckle protection & are comfortable for an all day ride. I don't want winter gloves. I'm looking for something with no liner inside or very minimal liner for comfort. I don't want any air holes between the fingers or any vents on the gloves.
I've looked at gloves online but its really hard to get a good idea on gloves over the net.
Anybody have any suggestions to kind of narrow down my search?
Thank You

If you want quality, go for Helimot .
http://www.helimot.com
They aren't cheap, but the fit is awesome, 24/7 wearable, and made in the USA. I have the buffalo pro model and they're what you describe. Not lined, generous knuckle protective padding, gauntlet style. I've worm them from 40 to 115 degrees in comfort. Not waterproof.
My pinkies are shorter than normal for my hand size. They shorthened them virtually while I waited, for a reasonable fee. I bought them from the owner at the shop. He instructed me to put them on, and soak my hands in a bucket of warm water till they were totally soaked and then wear them until nearly dry. Result: perfect fit.

From the look of the pictures it looks as if the top of the hand is perforated leather. Is that true?
Thanks again
Helimot's website is down for construction, I'll check it out later & google Helimot gloves.

Held Phantoms do have venting, and perforations between the fingers. Personally, I've never noticed the finger perforations while riding except when I deliberately spread my fingers to let some air in. The venting on the top of the hand is there, apparently, as an exit point for the air flowing from the finger perforations. I've never noticed the vents on top of the hand either, even on cold days. Amazingly comfortable gloves.
Check out the videos at the bottom of the Sporbiketrackgear web page.

I always like to try gloves on before I buy.
I notice Cycle Gear has a store listed in Spartanburg, SC. They carry more gloves than any of the MC dealers around here.
I've bought my last 2 or 3 pair at Cycle Gear store here.
You might give them a try.

There's also a Cycle Gear in Greenville. They have crap for stock. Seems all their want to stock is their store brand Bilt.

Spidi Carbo-3 gloves. They may look like overkill for the street and they aren't cheap, but I just bought a pair of these 2 months ago and love them. Fantastic fit, rock solid construction, no venting and soft as butter leather. This is my third pair of Spidi gloves over the years and they've always worn very well and lasted a long time. I expect these will be no different. The AlpineStars gloves I've tried aren't even in the same league.

Lee Parks. I love mine.
I can't believe I agree with FB on anything--but here's another thumbs up for Lee Parks gloves. The only thing they're missing is "knuckle protection"--LP just uses a patch of leather over the knuckles, but he does explain his reasons for doing so on
his site
(and I've heard rumours that he may introduce gloves with hard knuckle protection)--but other than that, they're very well thought out and made gloves, and extremely comfortable. BTW, I got mine at a Lee Parks stall at a bike show, so I was able to try them on first...

I have some Alpinestar SP1's that fit that bill. The leather looks perforated, but it's not, except for the piece under the non-perforated gauntlet part.
I Nikwaxed 'em, and the work pretty good in the rain. That being said, I have a couple pair of Helds which I love. If you have the $$$, go Helds.

BTW, in addition to my Lee Parks gloves, I have a pair of Held Galaxies (race gloves predating the Phantoms). Again, extremely good gloves, tons of protection, I just find them a bit bulky and for touring/everyday use I prefer the LPs (or some Onyx perforated for those super-hot summer days). Actually, I probably have about half a dozen pairs of riding gloves kicking around, and I often carry a spare pair with me.

I did the same to my Alpinestars SP2's. I really liked the SP1's but didn't want to drop the extra $50 on them.
I do like the 2's. They are sans liner, comfortable for all day riding and although the leather on the fingers looks perforated like the 1's, they aren't.

Another vote for Helimot. I have the F108s, rather than the Buffalo Pro and they don't meet your requirements; the Buffalo's would.
Plus Helimot has the best customer service I've ever seen; I got to drop by the store and get mine fixed on a recent trip out that way for work. Buy them -- you won't regret it.

Another long-time Lee Parks user here (I have all 3 models he makes). You'll want the DeerSports model if you want gauntlets. DeerSports probably have the largest gauntlets in the biz, too.

Thank you for the suggestions. Honestly, I like the Alpinestar SP1s & I think they are what I'm looking for. I'm going to try to find someone who stocks them but if I can't I'll order some off the net.
Thanks again

These look funky, but are beyond comfortable. Knox Handroids.
I bought them for the track, but find myself using them a bunch (less, now that it's getting colder)...

I'm a glove whore for sure. I must have over 20 pair of the things.
But I have to try them before I buy them. Gloves never run the same size, and fit and comfort is everything.
Best of luck with the search.
