Hawk with nail in head spotted in SF park

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A wildlife rescue group has returned to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to try to find and capture a red-tailed hawk that appears to have been shot in the head with a nail gun.
The bird was spotted Tuesday evening in the northwest part of the park with the nail extending from its cheek through the front of its head.
Rebecca Dmytryk, executive director of the Monterey-based group WildRescue, says crews tried to lure the bird into traps then but were unsuccessful. They can't use nets because the nail could get caught on them and further injure the hawk.
Dmytryk says the search resumed around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Sightings of the hawk can be reported to WildRescue at 831-429-2323 or rescue(at)wildrescue.org.
