I have absolutely no desire for that amount of fuel-efficiency-robbing power on a touring machine.

Here's another vid that was posted on another forum. Ricky Gadson rode a 8.99 1/4  Thumbsup

Crazy, back in my day it took a bike like this to run a 7 or 8 in the 1/4.

Hmmm...fuel-efficiency-robbing?  At a rough average of 85 mph I get about 45 mpg on the highway, and easily 230 miles to reserve light blinking.  If I slow down to a rough average of 65 I can get over 50 mpg.  The engine is loafing at highway speed in 6th gear.  I think that's pretty fuel efficient.  Now of course when I go to Plaid Speed, that number drops precipitously, but ask anyone riding a big bore and they'll tell ya it ain't about the gas mileage when they grab a handful of go handle.  Inlove

+1, same on the Busa. Only time it robs efficiency is when you use all 180HP - which is not very often. The 14 or Busa will use no more gas than any other touring bike at normal power output levels.

Squareman - what is the tank size on the 14 btw? I get 40-42 Mpg myself, and main tank hits reserve at 185ish with 1.3 gallons left.

5.8 gallons, with like 5.5 or 5.6 or so of that usable.  The tank design places the fuel pump in the lowest spot under the seat and there is very little gas below the pump level.  My best mileage was about 51 mpg rolling at 65/70.  I got 265 miles and a fill up of 5.2 gallons.  I probably could have pushed it more, but I was scared to run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, so I filled up at the next station I came to.  My reserve light comes on with about .8 gallons left.  At 80/85 I'm usually in the 42 to 45 mpg range, depending on how many "spirited" sections I hit.  I never get less than 200 miles to reserve.  I'm just not very daring with pushing my reserve.  One day I'll tie on a gas can and ride it til she dies just to see what I could max out at.  That'll be a nice day ride! Bigsmile

Have to edit to say if I'm in serious twisties, using a LOT of compression braking and banging it out of the corners, I'm usually in the 160 to 180 mile range to reserve.  That puts me in the 32 to 36 mpg range, so I HAVE gotten less than 200 to reserve, but not in straight highway riding.  Unless there are crazy headwinds or other issues, I have no problem hitting 200 to reserve consistently on the highway.

WANT.

Top end doesn't matter - but top gear roll on acceleration matters a lot to me.

I was impressed with the first gen I rests rode...

Perfect second bike for me, right?   Inlove

Paging Squareman357!

One of the tuners over on the Busa forum posted these figures for the 14r  Lol

Quote
Brock's CT pipe, no powercommander, stock ECU. The A/F was lean all the way out to about 8K, and then dropped to 13.0 - right up to the rev limiter. This chart is uncorrected, 64 degree day, 29% humidity

210HP and 121 Ft/Lbs at the wheel with just a pipe. Holy shit. That's @30 more HP at the wheel than my dyno tuned Busa, with full pipe and power commander! And about 14 more Lbs of torque  Crazy

So, how are those numbers working out?

Have to pay off 2 bills and I just may be able to swing it by Spring without selling the existing bike, which I'll probably sell to my pop for about $4K.  Trust me, I'm working on it.

I had the wife talked into buying me one, then I checked out the insurance.  We pay cash for our toys usually, so i would not need full coverage insurance, but I can't see having a brand new bike with out full coverage insurance.  It would be a second bike for me as I put the miles to the c14 and use the hard bags all the time.  So it is hard for me to justify that big insurance bill for a couple rides a month in the Michigan riding season that I would ride the bike.   So f it.

More fuel  Thumbsup

Runs a 9.10 completely stock (well stock filter, pipes, no power commander - just lowered). Pulls off the cans and runs an 8.99.
