OMB and I will be headed down to the Austin area early next year -- we'd love the benefit of local knowledge regarding motorcycle rentals out of Austin  .. ..

thanks a million!

I can't make any recommendations based on first-hand knowledge - for obvious reasons - but these folks stand out simply by not being a Harley rental which you will find is the only alternative. They are in New Braunfels, a nice town founded by German immigrants but more importantly having the AF1 Racing Aprilia/Piaggio/Vespa/Moto Guzzi dealership. Well worth a visit. NB is about 40 minutes from central Austin down IH-35 towards San Antonio. NB is also a fine jumping off point for Hill Country riding.

Be happy to answer any questions for ya either via the forum or PM.

Based on looking at their website these guys don't appear to be based in Austin.  My guess would be some type of franchising using Lone Star BMW as the provider and servicer of the rental. As a former resident of Austin I too offer any help or suggestions.

Actually they are just an agency - I got my bike for the 2004 National through them but it came from a small outfit in Denver. Probably better to go straight to the local provider if you can and support the small local business that does all the work.

I rented an ST1300 from http://www.sportryderrentals.com/ in Dallas.  It's only a couple few hours from Austin.  They took good care of me and I'd use them again.  Pricing was reasonable, bike was in excellent shape and they have tank bags, etc for use too.
