Hello All,

So I was waxing the Ninja this evening and I found a stress crack in the upper fairing by the right hand mirror base.

Needless to say, I'm not happy. The bike has about 2300 miles on it, never dropped, etc. etc. Has anyone else seen this yet on the N1K?

Thanks!

Mine is fine so far. Yours must have had the guy that installs the countershaft sprockets tighten the mirror.

This is why they created warranties...

Oh yeah, warranty for sure. Just disappointed to see this so soon. Better now than outside the warranty, though.

9k + here as well and no cracks. Let's hope this is an isolated incident.

Finally got it into another local shop (mine closed - long story, recession, etc, etc....), so now I'm waiting for the service writer to call me back to let me know parts have been ordered. A few days before I took it in, I noticed that the left rear turn signal was also cracked right near one of the lens screws. So, hopefully that will get replaced under warranty as well.

Whee.

does it get parked close to other bikes or in a high traffic area with people walking close by?

The fairing crack could be someone walking by and bumping into the mirror and levering it enough to cause a crack.

Doesn't sound like a quality issue so much as a 'got bumped into' issue maybe?

I don't normally park it where folks have to get too close to it. I like there to be at least a few feet of clearance around my bike. If I'm parking among other motorcyclists, I will usually allow for less clearance, but there should still be enough room so that one doesn't have to do the 'sideways shuffle'.

The mirror bolts to the fairing stay, which is directly under the cowling. Someone would have to lever it over pretty hard to crack the plastic. Not impossible, I guess, but also not likely, IMHO.

In any case, the fairing was replaced under warranty.  Thumbsup to Kawasaki.
