Cleverly avoiding the whole "is it longitudinal or transverse?" question...

...90-degree V-twin engines with a literal twist: the cylinders jut left and right, with the crankshaft in line with the bike’s frame rather than across it.

(The answer is, of course, "longitudinal")

Thank you! People have pointed out to me that some of Guzzi's own literature says transverse, but I think that's a sop to we Americans (who view Harley as being the "right" way). The definition of longitudinal is that the crank is inline with the frame, as you state.
