I took a few photos over the weekend and thought I'd share them with the rest of Region 6ers... I'm sure that a few of you have similar pics and stories  Smile

9 am on Saturday

11 am

1 pm

The city cut down all of the old trees and put in new ones about 7 years ago. Most of the young trees on our street looked like this.

...or like this.

This is at the end of our block, where the "old" trees had been left alone.

This house was hit particularly hard.

The next morning we went back out to see what had happened overnight...

This was probably the most property damage I saw (although many large trees were in people's backyards, where I couldn't see)

Sunday really was a beautiful day

We talked to this owner and he was understandably upset by the split in his tree...

And this is his neighbor.

Power was (and still is) out for many people.

They blocked off the end of my street so I walked down to find out why. This is what I saw. Apparently, when they hooked up the power from the night before, this line arced and caught fire. It burned for about two hours before the utilities showed up to shut off the power.

video of the live wire fire at the end of my block

Another view of the fire (and the emergency vehicles, and the caution tape, and the branches still caught in wires, and the wires still down...

The utility guy showed up. Yep, just one.

The street is still on fire, even after the line has been removed. Centralia, anyone? :-)

The garden gnome is still in the yard...somewhere.

Anyway, all is well here. We lost power for about 3 1/2 hours last night, but slept through most of that anyway. It should be 55 by Wednesday. I'll be back on the bike Tuesday, I'm sure  Bigok

Sorry Dante, I didn't take any pics of the nine inches we got, I decided to drown my sorrows with beer and football... Beerchug
The good part is 99% has melted and it looks like we'll be riding by Tuesday. Here is the best part, the long range forcast calls for above temps late next week! Thumbsup
That video was awesome, thanks for sharing....

We barely got a dusting in VA yesterday.  But the mountains of VA were white capped and I got a brief view while riding today.  Temps in the 50's.

Rt 322 was closed in multiple locations.  I was glad our underground electric stayed on.

I'm amused at the power outages somewhat as well.  Out here in the sticks with underground electric and it pretty much stays on all the time.  That said, it does come out of the ground somewhere.  They did have the forethought around here to clear where it comes out so nothing can fall on it.

We lost power (of course), and our generator stopped working.  No property damage, apart from a tree soon to be losing a bunch of limbs.

An ominous sound, though I find it curiously soothing. I was at the Y of the Rockies at Estes Park CO for the snow. Here's a shot from there...

The pine trees don't seem to be bothered, much, by the snow, but down in town (Fort Collins) the "regular" trees that hadn't lost leaves had dropped branches galore.

I'm not sure if I would have called it "soothing", but it was loud. That's reallythe only reason I took the video of it, so that others could hear the sound. Photos just don't do that very well  Embarassment

I was(am) in the middle of doing a hydrographic survey of the Passaic River from the entrance in Newark  up past Rutherford.   When we left the dock in the morning it wasn't too bad, but then the snow picked up faster than anyone predicted.

Problem was the dock was up in Rutherford, but we were stuck downriver of the Belleville Bridge until dropped low enough for us to get home.  So we just kept working through the snow
