I usually go up to Tahoe somewhere around Tgiving/Xmas/New Year, to get my annual dose of snowfall.  However, all of that is kind of early for reliable snow, and I've really missed out a couple of times.

I've never gone to Mammoth (which is much closer, I'm in San Diego), but have the impression it's "just" a ski destination, without as much other stuff to do and scenery as Tahoe.  Anyone have any recommendations as far as reliable (meaning I can books something now) areas for getting stuck in a nice blizzard, or am I at the mercy of the Pacific storms?

Thanksgiving might be a little early this year.  I was at Kirkwood for a look around yesterday.  (35 mi south of the lake on 88).  Not a lot of snow, yet.  Have had chain restrictions on I-80 a couple of times last week.
