I told you it wasn't gonna snow here. Bigsmile
But it did rain, and it was quite windy.  We call these things Nor'easters and we got one.
Made for some mud:

this puddle is usually half the size.

When they weren't muddy, the trails were nice.

Mother nature has been angry lately.

Most puddles were easy enough to simply ride around.  This one nearly swallowed me.  I rode the edge until the last 10 feet or so on the left side of the pic.  The bike dropped in, water covered the frigging engine. EEK! Lol  I was in water up to my knees.  Instead of standing up, I simply lifted my legs like a child riding a tricycle through a little puddle.   Embarassment  Fortunatley, it was so cold I had my HT Overpants on so my legs stayed dry.

Next problem buried the front tire past the axle.  I usually go around this (There's multiple trails that bypass it) but for reasons unknown, I thought I would give it a try.
The moment the front tire disappeared I knew I was in trouble. Lol  As I contemplated my next move, 2 trucks rode up which made me nervous.  There was barely enough room to slip by and if their tires dropped into the rut they could crush me.
Nice guys; got out and helped me push the bike out.
I headed up the hill and snapped a few pics.

Doesn't look like much but it sucked me in. Lol

More puddles.

You may recall the hill of terror from this report:
http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,65702.0.html
I have a new battery now so crashing isn't the huge drama it once was.
Anyway, I still tiptoe down this fucker but I thought I would advise of my progress. Bigsmile
It occurred to me I never took a pic from the bottom.  The camera is held level to the ground, but the pics don't do it justice.

Not my fault there wasn't any snow.  The weather reports said there was! Smile

I would have never thought LI had so much open space left... My recollection of LI was "suburban hell" as I used to hang out around Lake Ronkonma (sp?) in the mid 80's with shopping malls and parking lots everywhere. Ugh!

This is where I get to ride at now in Central/Northern Michigan (Manistee National Forest)

Lake Ronkonkoma is pretty much in "The Middle" so everything around it is developed.  I'm south and east of there so I have some options.  That said, LI is Hardly an off road mecca. Lol  The riding generally sucks.  If I were 18 riding a dirt bike I would have been arrested by now. Bigsmile
