Never been part of the planning but wonder if we could take over a place like Willeville or Blue Ridge MC Campground?

 Ooh, now you're talking.

But do you really think ESTNers would go for a
camping meet? I'd like to find out what other
people think of this idea.

I'm sure you can round up a jar of 'shine down there if you check in with the right farmhouses.  Thumbsup

Morehead would probably work as an eastern KY location. Easy access via I64. Fine riding to the east on the awesome route 32. It sits at the north end of the Daniel Boone National Forest which has some fine riding. College town near Cave Run Lake. Lots of chain hotels, restaurants, gas, etc. Although Rowan is a dry county, the city of Morehead is "wet", so you can buy beer/etc there.

Personally, I think that's getting quite a ways from the east coast (Morehead is a full day ride from Pittsburgh) so you would be pulling from a different set of STN members (more central than eastern), but it'd be a good spot for a meet of some sort.

RE: Camping
I strongly prefer a motel to camping. Camping requires a whole bunch of extra stuff to schlep around. That said, I had a good time at the Seneca Rocks campout, so I'm not totally adverse to it. It's not like you're setting up camp and tearing it down every day. But there's a lot to be said for air conditioning, a dry bed, and a hot shower at the end of a long day of riding.

That's Texas that you get eaten in the hills. Here you get chucked into a closed coal mine and never seen again.

My recollection is that ESTN has been in these locations in the past few years:

2011 - Marietta, OH
2010 - Sparta, NC (STN National was in Lewisburg, WV that year)
2009 - Lake Placid, NY
2008 - Marlinton, WV
2007 - Sparta, NC
2006 - none (STN National was in Canaan Valley, WV that year)
2005 - Stowe, VT

Wow..you have a good memory garry  Smile Thumbsup

I can't imagine how Stowe, Vt. was selected

Probably because there wuz only 25 ST.N'ers east of the Mississippi back in those days  Bigsmile

A location like that would probably get overruled nowadays.

I think we had about 25 people show up. We rented an entire B&B/motel place. The house was like a B&B but there was a small set of motel units behind the house. Was a great location as there was food, drink, brewpub all within walking distance. I had a great time. That was also the ESTN where PreacherP (Paul) had his bad accident en route and nearly died. He was in a coma for a very long time and (as I recall) mostly(?) recovered.

I've suggested this before, but I still feel that Tuggles's Gap restaurant and motel would be a great choice.  In the same general area as Galax, but everything we would need is right there......all in one place.  Just south of Floyd, Va. Right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, at route 8.

Good food
Clean, cheap rooms
Gas for the bikes
Beer sold on premisies
GREAT roads
Easy access

Google Tuggles Gap and follow the links for more info

Do you know where it was or if it still is?  Sounds like a perfect place for another group!

Pat,
I agree about everything but the room.  They are definitely cheap, very small, mine wasn't all that clean, the shower and head left a LOT to be desired, had an armada of flying creatures sharing my room too, plus my bed wasn't as good as an air mattress.  Maybe that was my luck of the draw, but I would prefer my Eureka and a shower room.   Definitely some great roads.

Rod...I will bow to your greater knowledge, as I have never stayed there, only viewed rooms from the outside.  They did appear small, as it is an old time mom and pop place, but what I saw looked clean.  Have no idea about the quality of the beds.

I will attest to the quality of the food and roads though......very very good IMO.

Merry Christmas my friend!

Yes...let's.  Because some people burn through all their vacation in the first half of the year and then can't make the fall events.   Razz
