I believe all I said was that I'd like it in my home town and that I'd make hot dogs. My offer stands.

I don't have any practical planning experience or knowledge of the all important must have twisty criteria.

Every thing I've seen is at least 1000 miles from where I live which by the way is in the EAST!!!!!!!!

Next?

Afraid to ride LOL  Twofinger And don't take it so frigging personal, geez you people have thin skins any more. Hang out on ADVR for a while it will toughen that thin hide

What this thread needs is someone to volunteer to organize the meet (not me) and just make it happen. Pick a date and a location, find some lodging, and declare it to be so. Everything else (T-shirts, group dinners, prizes, etc, etc) is just gravy if people are willing to arrange it. Marlinton, Lewisburg, or Sparta would be no-brainers since we've done them before. I would vote Lewisburg just because it has easy access via interstate, more local amenities (restaurants, etc) and is central to a lot of good riding.

You'll never please everyone. Just make sure the riding is good and within a day's ride for a size-able portion of the east coast. If will always be more than a day ride to get to/from for someone in the extremes (way north or way south). That's why the location moves around every year.

I loved Lake Placid!  Garry did a great job.  So somebody like Garry pick a place like Lake Placid, please?

Sparta, NC and Marlinton, WV were excellent places for a central place to ride.  If someone doesn't want to recreate the wheel, just pick one of those places as the hotels and places to eat were already tested by us once.

While Lake Placid is a great ride too, I believe it's too soon to revisit.

Nope... bitched. I used the right word.  Cool Lol

PS... I'm all for setting up a semi-permanent August or September meet in WV.  Thumbsup

Google it.

I support your recommendation.  Makes sense.  Good roads. Central location.  Late August, early September usually has enough clear skies to support good riding.

I think a RAT group which may or may not still be a RAT group does just that at Cannan Valley (also a great venue) every August.  I've been there but never to their event.

Ah yes, the "WV RAT Gathering". I started that event during my tenure as the Pittsburgh RAT Pack leader and hoped Triumph would pick it up as an official "RAT Raid". But then they dropped RAT Raids. Sigh...

Several regional RAT Packs helped out in the early days, but as RAT faded, it came down to Woody from the State College pack (now the Nittany Road Riders) taking over the lead from me. I still help with routes, but Woody is the primary organizer. Mark Hawkins from KY and his RAT crew attend every year.

We morphed the event into the "Euro Rider Rendezvous" to include Euro bikes since most Triumph shops also carry other Euro brands. Everyone on anything were always welcome, but we figured a name change might help it seem more inclusive. It never grew much beyond it's simple beginnings of "show up and ride". No official group dinners. No T-shirts. No prizes. Just good roads and good people. It's like a small ESTN (25-ish people plus or minus).

The ERR has been held at North Bend State Park the last few years (just west of Harrisville, WV), but is moving back to the Canaan Valley area for 2012. It will be held the first weekend in August at Blackwater Falls state park. I will create a big bike friendly adventure ride for it this year in addition to the usual mix of twisty roads. I will buy some hotdogs.  Thumbsup

Would it be fair to conclude that the “Country Roads” Region 6 Spring Meet – May 4-6” makes ESTN an Autumn event?

To me the "when" is a calculated risk as far as weather is concerned.  Case in point the annual burger run.  Cold and rain. Except this past year, when it was just bitterly cold.

Planning on a long holiday away at the Baltimore Grand Prix on Labor Day, so anything real close to that is taxing for me.

Granted, I only made it through the first 4 pages of this thread...

Will catch up on the rest of it tomorrow...

Weather=crap shoot is correct. You can get anything from 40s and raining to 80s and sunny. As I recall, three of the five "Burger Runs" were nice weather, one was a beautiful Saturday followed by a Sunday morning deluge, and then a nice Sunday afternoon, and one was generally damp. Overall, I think the number of nice days well out-numbered the bad ones. I think we were lucky considering the time of year.
