05 VFR Keep or sell?

This is one of those bikes that changed my motorcycling experience forever, hell, my life for that matter. It didn't just start a new chapter in my life, more like began a new book. Purchased in March '08 with 800 miles on the clock. Three and a half years later she's got 34k and some change. She's taken me coast to coast, up and down the coast, and all over. But since last October has only tallied 4k miles. That's where my problem lies.
This year the track has called me more than the open road. I still enjoy a good multi day excursion, but lately my weapon of choice has been the Super Duke. The VFR is a great mile muncher but I haven't had the time to do that, I try to stay in the twisties going nowhere in a mountain range, maximizing turns for time. Most weekends are spent working or at the track now.
Now the VFR basically just extends my riding season a few weeks with its ample weather protection. With no mega trips in the foreseeable future, keeping her around just doesn't seem logical. The SD tours decently and doubles as a track bike when needed. The VFR has been super reliable and plenty of fun, but fails to ignite the spark anymore. I drug a knee on it Sunday. But it's time to shrink the fleet, and the dusty bike gets the boot.
Shall I pass her on to the next rider for their own personal fulfillment in motorcycle sport touring?

Yep, sell it.
Worst case scenario you decide to get another bike in the future.

Sounds like it is time to sell it. As you say, the SD can do multi-day trips. And the addition of some heated gear can extend the season on the SD.

Not a bad price with the goodies stripped off and sold separately. My friend did that to his with 50k miles. All in all he got about 4k for everything.

Keep the bike I would say. Compare the performance differance between the 6th gen and 7th gen VFR and from what I have read there is not much of a gulf between the 2. Please keep in mind my opinion is solely based on what I have read. I have not taken a 7th gen bike out yet. And to be honest, where are you going to find a bike like the 6th gen VFR that can do what it can and provide the same value? I can play on my 08 VFR and tour and not lose the smile. In the end it's the relationship between you and the bike that you are on. Make sure you get your money's worth. By the way, my VFR with Givi hard luggage and my carcass can get 400+ kms on 1 tank of fuel
