After 15 years it was finally time to replace my old tank bag. Other than the zipper braking for the top and the map pouch taring the rest of the bag (other than it being weathered) is still in good shape.

I had been looking for another bag for a while and finally settled on the Cortech super18.

Old beat up tankbags make great garage tool-bags for regular use items or oddball stuff like scissors, razor knives, pressure gauges etc. etc..  Thumbsup

your farkleage on that FJR is quite impressive BTW.

So how traumatic was the swap from strap on to magnetic?

After having magnetic bag stand up on me at highway speed I would never put magnetic bag on my bike again.

I'm going thought counseling now but it looks like I'll pull through.

I'm the opeset. When i bought that 15 years ago the magnets were crap and i did hear of bags coming off. On this one there are magnets on the bottom of the bag to. I went for a ride in that wind we had this week and the bag never moved.

have you see new Givi bags that attach to the fuel cap opener and do not require magnets? Plus, with magnets you need to wash the bike all the time to prevent scratches  Bigsmile

Coug, buddy -- you likley don't know about Ed's FJR -- it's got enough miles to reach to Saturn, and a third of the way back.

If it wasn't for scratches, well, it wouldn't be Ed's.

The trick to stop that is to put a bungee cord around the steering head and hook it to those 2 front loops on the bag. Cures the lift and greatly stabilizes any TB.

Depends on the aerodynamics of your particular bike I'd say. I've run two different magnetic tank bags on the C10 and have not had a lift/blow-off problem at all.

Also depends on the aerodynamics of the tankbag.  I had severe front-lift lift problems with my (square shaped) Joe Rocket bag on my R1100R (Parabellum Sportshield, no fairing) and needed the tiny bungees if I wanted to go over 90.  I got a RapidTransit Recon bag (teardrop shape) and it sticks like a limpet mine at any speed.  With fewer, but better placed, magnets.

Given that the fairing on the C10 has enough plastic to build 3 phone booths and a medium sized shed I'm not surprised.  Razz

With every one talking about the lift i am glad to report that i have had no lift at all. I have also used it on the EX and it hasn't moved at all.

There are also magnets on the bottom of the bag that keep it from getting air underneath it.

I am a happy camper.

Yeahbut - it trade the risk of a lift for a little ventilation on the old C....

(Oops - not a Connie thread, my bad).
