http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2011/11/2012-bmw-f800r-now-less-ugly/

the rumor was that there might be a styling refresh for 2012... does this count? one thing's for certain... bmw will go under now that they've added "pods"  Bigsmile

Well, the radiator ends were pretty ugly before.  I'd say it's an improvement, albeit a very small one.

I think it's cute! This looks like it could be a wonderful commuter bike, at 9,950 MSRP there are worse options out there.

If it's got engine response and any ride/braking/handling like the current F800ST it will be a superb little bike.

A bit "naked" for my liking, but, there's always ways around that.

Ugh, there is no way I could drop 10 large on this with so many better options out there.  Stylistically, this one is just a miss.

i should clarify... i like this bike, a lot. it just seems to me that bmw's designers are getting confused about what it should be. the f800s and st are both nice looking bikes, and the r is the functional/practical naked that isn't too concerned about looking good... stuff is where it needs to be and it works without all the extra body panels. i like the minimalist, industrial look, but adding more to it in an attempt to cheaply restyle it brings to my mind pigs and lipstick and such.

9,950 msrp? i hadn't heard a price for the 2012 yet, and if accurate, it's a great price for a bike with (now) standard abs.

Here's my review of the F800R I got to put a long day's worth of riding on:

http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,60258.msg1392811.html#msg1392811

I enjoyed the bike quite a bit.  I prefer the aesthetics of the older model, but I guess the new one is acceptable.

I'd take it, since I can't find a K1200R ala Resident Evil.

It felt like it had no power, I was constantly reaching and shifting to keep up to a normal riding speed. The rear suspension was very soft at one point at the start of the test i was stopped going up hill and when i hit it the she sat down and i felt i was going to fall off. Lol scared the crap out of my self. I am sure that was the setting. it felt very narrow at the seat and it felt funny to me.

If you care, SportRider rated it dead last behind a Yam FZ8, Duc Monster 1100 and Triumph STR

Poor suspension, really buzzy motor, high price, low power etc etc etc

This repeated bad press on the F800R surprises me as I don't recall so many faults listed on the other F800 models - the GS's, S, and ST.  I have read repeated issues on the F800GS suspension, but not buzziness and low power.  Maybe I just have not read enough reviews on those other F800 models.

i understand some of the options (abs?) on the '11 (what i have), come standard on the '12.

happy '11 owner - it's the ideal bike for me, but ymmv,

I had a chance to ride an F800ST and I thought the engine/overall bike/handling was awesome. TONS of power and lots of low/midrange torque. I'd buy an F800ST in a freaking heartbeat.
I felt the bike was difficult to keep at legal speeds. What a blast, great bike.
