I called it a few days ago on local mailing-list, TwistiesStraightsAndTwistiesRide. Either case you should get the gist quoted below.

Yeah, you read it right. This 200 mile ride is part Mountain Twisties and part High-Desert sightseeing. Preliminary route below starts from Osborne/Lexicon 7-11 at 9am. Late Breakfast at Foxy's Landing, located at the Fox Airfield in Lancaster.

The impetus for this ride was just to check and see if the musical road on Avenue G works for motorcycles too. Added in more of the deserted parts of the desert North of Lake Los Angeles for sight-seeing. I lived in Lake Los Angeles for a year or two, years ago, and vague memories flash back that area around the buttes is pretty cool for sight-seeing, if you're into the beauty of the desert.

As usual, this will be a slinky-style, ride-your-own-ride sort of ride. Fast/Slow/In-between riders, all are welcome Wink.

Prelim route, probably needs some tweaking, suggestions welcome...

Hmmmm.... not much to see on the N/E end of that route besides the occasional mobile-home meth lab  Lol  but I could be in anyway depending on the weather.

Eh, you miss the point, the occasional mobile-home meth lab is part of the intended 'sight-seeing' tour. I don't have any of those in my own neighborhood, doesn't mean I don't want to see what they look like.

Figure this as a ride down salton-sea area, only much more local. There's some cool way-old motels and stuff out on that NE-Corner that are still standing and mostly used for horror movies these days. And then there's the cool bit of wicking up the pace on the straight bits, and I understand your trepidation, but just fall in behind me and you should be safe... lol

Does anyone know of the musical hwy of which I speak, or just reserving comment for btdt and it was lame. Eh, don't care either-way, still doing it. Plus the little airport in the middle of nowhere breakfast. Geez, it seems hard to pull in any interest for any outta the ordinary rides here...

Any-case, I'm aiming this for a high-pressure weekend here in So-Cal. So far, many weekends have been exactly scheduled for the lows. Hoping one of the proposed weekends will make a switch. I want sunny skies a low winds, will call for real, one of the proposed dates, slightly ahead of time, or postpone for a better day...

I really wanted to include this bit into the tour and go down the rabbit hole, but I'm thinking it's off limits after viewing videos on youtube telling all about the bajillion secret underground levels of this rabbit hole...

The Civic Musical Road in Lancaster actually has a Wikipedia entry - it was on Avenue K, but moved to Avenue G after residents complained.

Quote
The Civic Musical Road was built on Avenue K in Lancaster, California, United States, on 5 September 2008.[7] Covering a quarter-mile stretch of road between 60th Street West and 70th Street West, the Musical Road used grooves cut into the asphalt to replicate part of the Finale of the William Tell Overture. It was paved over on 23 September after nearby residents complained to the city council about noise levels.[8]

After further complaints from city residents about its removal, work began to re-create it on 15 October 2008 on Avenue G between 30th Street West and 40th Street West — this time, two miles away from any residence.[9][10] This road is named after the Honda Civic. It opened two days later.[11] The new section on Avenue G is only in the far left lane of the westbound side of the road.
The road appears in Honda Civic commercials. The rhythm is recognizable, but the pitches are so far off that the melody bears only a slight resemblance to the William Tell Overture. The intonation is not affected by the design of the car or the travel speed. It is likely the designers made a systematic miscalculation which affected all the groove spacings.[12]

I might be in as well - just because.

Dave

I'm not totally opposed to switching to a Saturday. If it 'did' switch to a Saturday, could you make either of those dates 12/3 or 12/10?

Ultimately, I'm mostly holding out for great weather. There's a few from the LABiker list that have expressed interest. In the end it will be based on popular response whether it's a Saturday or Sunday, if both days look like great weather on either of the mentioned weekends. If we continue the trend of great weather during the week and border-line sketchy weather over the weekend, I will push to later dates...  (whether or not anyone understands what I just wrote, is a mystery as deep as a cut-off low (weather man's woe)).  Crazy     Lol

As a side-note, when I was putting together the idea for this ride last weekend, it struck me it would be super-cool to tie it in with a visit to El Mirage for a viewing of some of a SCTA event. Quick check of the website ( http://www.scta-bni.org/events.html ) revealed the last event of the year was happening in real life, as I formulated the thought. So, depending on how this ride goes, a revisit in May, may be in order...  Wink

I'd be up for either of those dates...weather and my back permitting.
Recently 'threw' my back out changing the oil in my son's car...go figure.
Usually happens to my back once or twice a year, but this one is particularly bad.
Anyway, if the back is better and the weather is nice, I'm there!

Don't get me wrong I love the desert I just find it hard to behave myself out there, and we're getting into winter weather. Not that I won't ride in inclement weather, but if it's raining/snowing on the mountain I'm working so no time to ride. Making money instead.

Yeah, like I said, this ride will not occur on a crappy weather weekend. If both of the proposed dates continue the current trend, I 'will' push to later dates. Still, this is SoCal, there's plenty of beautiful sunshine days all through the winter. Case in point, Rose Parade is something like 90% likely to be a beautiful SoCal day. Not sure 90% is really accurate, just a wild guess on all my years I can remember...

Also, as far as behaving, like I said... just fall in behind me. I can take another hit, after just winning my speeding ticket way back from March of this year. Did every trick in the book, and finally won at my last try last week at Trial de novo. I still have a sparkly-clean record, and $360 bail refund is in the mail to me...  Bigsmile

Wow, blast from the past!

I know you've been on at least one of my ride-calls from years back. Which ride, or how many years, I'm pulling a blank. Still, main thing I 'do' remember, I enjoyed your company on whatever ride(s) it was. Hope you can make this one, whenever it happens...   Bigok

I ate my last performance award (the one I got in Queen Krimson up on 99) so I can't afford another for the next couple years. Got me one of those early warning boxes on the viffer now, but still gots to be careful. You need to get GMRS capable so we can keep in touch while on the move. The whole setup that Kris & I use was less $$ than 1 Chatterbox, and has at least twice the range.
