That won't be the C7 ... but C8?, could be.  Headscratch  Rumor is that the C7 will just be a "refined" C6.

No.

That's a Daytona Prototype.

Very cool, very fast - has nothing to do with production.

Maybe some derivative technologies...

So how does Chevy rate rules changes just so their car will be legal for racing in a particular class?   Is this common with all manufacturers?

The series works with each team and manufacturer to tweak the rules to make the teams more equally competitive. Sometimes they increase or decrease the weight requirement or change the fuel capacity.

That's me 3rd from the left!

They've been clients of mine for years. I do all the electronics and data engineering on that car.

It's the same chassis design as last years car with the new corvette bodywork on it. The series is referring to these as "Gen 3" Daytona prototypes. There will be 2 versions of the new body work so far, one from corvette and one from Riley technologies that won't be "branded" like the GM body work.

Oh and by the way, it needs AC, all DP's have a heat issue, and without the driver helmet AC and the cool suit system, most wouldn't last 1 hour in the car. Cockpit temps are sometimes stupid high (like 120F!)

Any chance of borrowing the keys for a few minutes?

No keys required...Fuel isn't that fancy it's just Sunoco GTX260, 100 octane unleaded, it is $7.50 a gallon though. It's died green to make it easy for the sanctioning body to test it to make sure you're using the right stuff.

How did your test go CMS_Sprint?

It went OK.

We finally got a package that seems to suit all the drivers by the end of the test. We had a BIG 2nd gear failure Sunday morning that cost us some track time, so we didn't get through all of the changes we wanted to try. My guess is that pole will be a 1:40.xx and I think we can get pretty close to there. Only 2 weeks to go until the "big show"....

The car is down to the tub already, and the guys are getting all the spares fitted and prepared. By mid next week it will be back together and the team will start practicing all the "what if" changes that we don't normally come across during the rest of the season (gearbox, splitter etc). The drivers will arrive 2 days before the event so we can pour a new seat insert and practice driver changes until they can all do it in about 20 secs (generally not the favorite day for the drivers!) Then it gets loaded in the truck and its ON!

Speed will be covering 16 hours of the race live so you can tune in and watch it unfold. The non broadcast time should stream live from the web if it's the same as last year. Now if we could only get back to starting at 11:00am rather than 3:00pm. They made that change a few years ago to accommodate the world cup soccer, and never went back. When the sun comes up on Sunday morning, it would be nice to think that there's only 3 hours to go rather than 8...All and all we're up for about 35ish hours...So tired at the end.

If anyone is coming, let me know. I'll give you a quick tour.

To me, thats sounds good (rather than OK) for a brand new package. Good luck at Daytona. I hope you finish second, right behind Gainsco.  Bigsmile

I hope to make the Laguna round in person but that depends on some moto racing and work schedules for me.

Might as well make this the Daytona 24-hour Race thread.

CMS_Sprint's team (blue #90 Corvette Prototype) qualified 5th just under a half second off the pole. My buddy's Gainsco team (red #99 Corvette Prototype) is 4th. Three of the new Corvette prototypes in the top five. Really looking forward to the race this weekend.

Well the blue oval motors were a force to be reckoned with  for sure, so alas there was no bow tie dance at the end of the 24 this year.

We had a good car and were leading the race at hour six, but at 3:30am we had an inner tripod failure (like a CV joint) and it took us 14 laps under green to replace the half shaft. This year's pace meant that there would be not time for any green flag stops, and as such we finished 8th with 746 laps done. 550 gallons of fuel, 120 tires, 12 driver changes, 6 quarts of oil is all it takes to go the distance....
