Where would one look for this when going over a used bike?

Look at the back rack: there's a small nylon webbing strap that holds the tool kit. The kit itself should be contained inside a cheap black plastic box under that strap  Thumbsup

PS - same on Gen II, fwiw

Thank you ma'am -- I'm lookin at a couple this weekend, and all up here seem to be priced a bit high -- it would be a good bargaining chip to try and get down near BlueBook, I'm thinkin.

I'm thinking "not so much". The kit is shite, IMHO, and I don't think I've ever used anything in it. But hey, if it works for you  Thumbsup

Oh, the stock kits are always made of cheese -- but it'll be nice to say "the rear tire is shot, the chain is rusty, AND the tool kit's missing."

Also, it would serve, if present, as a reasonable guide to rounding up good tools of the appropriate sizes.

KLR riders, generally speaking, are retarded.  I recall doing a thread along these lines but my memory is a bit foggy.  I am a retard afterall... Wink

What i'm getting at is you will see KLR riders will take KBB full retail and throw $500 on it.  To normal folks a cheaply made tool kit that most people simply throw away would not be much of a bargining tool but with retards, YOU NEVER KNOW. Thumbsup Lol
Good luck.
