In the market, expense is not too much of a factor. I want one that will last and work well. What brand/type do the EOE recommend?

If had this kit for about 10 years. Works every-time...
http://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-CHAIN-RIVET-08-0058/dp/B000UKD6C4/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_6
I think you can get a smaller kit cheaper for just 520 - 530 size chains...

I have the RK one since that's the chain I use
http://www.amazon.com/RK-Chain-Rivet-Tool-4060/dp/B000GZOI48/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_2
I've been using it for the past four chains. The first time, the pin on one anvil broke but it was still useable. I'm pretty sure that was my own fault in not having used one before. The most recent, the main pin broke. The pin was slightly bent (a very mild bend) but it was apparently enough as it snapped when I tried to break the chain. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any way to get the bits replaced individually so I'll have to pick up a new one.
I do like the kit so I'll likely get another one, if nothing else so my current one is available for spares

Had the same kit for a few years as well, no complaints yet. Although I do use other tools to cut the chain and just use the kit to install/set the rivets.

MOACT,
Mother Of All Chain Tools
Now, that's what I'm talking about.
Commercial grade, heavy duty and damn near indestructible. Thanks everyone, I'll be placing an order on Monday. Found the DID tool online for $162 shipped. For the few extra bucks over the DIY stuff, it's the shiznit.

+1 on the MotionPro. Heard about broken pins so bought a chain breaker from Harbor Freight ($8). Never used it-dremel off the rivet head and it pushes out easily. Ian, Iowa

MotionPro's tool is borderline POS, but if you just use a Dremel to grind off the rivet heads it works great for getting the master link off. Try and break the rivet heads with the tools in the kit, and you WILL break those low-grade pins they give you.
I don't know if any other make of kit is made better than MotionPro's, but other than that one failing, it does the job for removing and installing master links.
